SPL pushes for reconstruction next year â?? but with no place for Rangers

Recommended Posts

Why do they keep harping on about ''fast tracking Rangers back into the top league''?, as far as I know nobody from Rangers wants fast tracked, the fans wanted to go to the 3rd division and work our way back up.

there is a myth that if do get fast tracked it will be an establishment conspiracy to help us. a tims mind works in mysterious ways mate.

I've never been a fan of us leaving Scotland at all up until what happened this summer, but when those SPL clubs voted us out of our league and our own governing body treated us the way they did, it completely changed my point of view on the idea of moving down south. It would take us 5-10 years to work our way up to a decent league down south, but in all honesty I'd rather that than spend years getting back to the top in Scotland only to line the pockets of the clubs who tried to kill us. Fuck 'em.
And just what level is that? the conference? If we were parachuted in there there would be a lot of noses out of joint. I might accept the Championship but I would expect a lot of opposition from the Sheff Weds and Burnleys - teams with tradition and ambition who might resent a non-English club barring their way to future glory and riches.

TERRY BUTCHER is entitled to say he is happy with the structure of Scottish football and the SPL should be left as it is.

They are the opinions of a manager who had just led his Inverness Caley Thistle side to back-to-back away victories at Celtic and Aberdeen to move joint top of the league on Tuesday for the first time in their history.

But big Butcher should be wary of taking too much of the fine red wine he enjoys.

For the record, I don’t share his verdict. The game in Scotland is crying out for change.

But Butcher is not the only advocate for the status quo.

Charles Green has been mouthing off again. He is adamant Rangers don’t want to be fast tracked back to the top division.

They are happy to work their way through the SFL – and perhaps even stay there.

Absolute folly.

Does he really think the blue-chip investors he’s been courting are interested in investing in a club that’s not competing with Celtic?

Does Green not fancy a crack at getting his hands on the £15million the Hoops have banked from their Champions League involvement in the past three months?

Does he think Rangers fans will continue to pay season-ticket money year after year just to watch a team filled with kids and mediocre professionals?

If he answers ‘Yes’ to any of the above then the man may well be deluded.

I just hope what he says in public to please the punters is different to what he is saying and doing in private. As chief executive he has a duty to get Rangers back in with the big boys as quickly as possible.

There appears to be too much bitterness lingering after the SPL clubs voted to deny a place to the reborn Ibrox side.

Rangers must move on. They must allow common sense to prevail and their club to thrive. Green should take off his boxing gloves, quit the fighting talk and leave the past in the past.

The SFL and SPL are trying to come up with ideas to improve our game and no wonder. It is badly needed.

If you’ve just flown in from Timbuctoo then you might be fooled into thinking there is a title race going on just now in the SPL but there isn’t.

Celtic will win the crown with plenty to spare. It’s just a matter of time before they race away with it.

I’m convinced had Rangers still been in the top flight Celtic wouldn’t have dropped so many points. To lose 17 points from 15 games would normally start the alarm bells ringing.

Subconsciously Neil Lennon’s players have switched off in league games – they’d probably be at least six points better off if they had Rangers on their tails.

But at least the Old Firm sides are financially stable. The same can’t be said for many others.

Hearts are struggling financially and Aberdeen are the latest to admit to problems.

At Pittodrie, Stewart Milne had to wipe off £3.5m of the club’s debt to make the balance sheet more respectable. But the books are still not healthy.

A long and bumpy road is ahead for the game in Scotland. We have to hope it can all be sorted to better the product, entice fans out of their homes and boost club coffers.

But in a week when UEFA admitted they need to revamp the Champions League and Europa League, what chance have we got of reshaping our game if the richest clubs in the land are producing a limp product?

And just what level is that? the conference? If we were parachuted in there there would be a lot of noses out of joint.

If we applied to the conference, it would probably end up being down to the clubs to vote on what to do, so if enough clubs wanted us to join, then a few noses out of joint wouldn't really be an issue. We're talking about extenuating circumstances here as well because we were completely shafted by our own league and the SFA's inability to handle a delicate situation. If our club had been treated properly up here, then we wouldn't currently be playing in the 4th tier of Scottish football, so our crazy treatment gives us an excellent case to apply to play elsewhere.

I might accept the Championship but I would expect a lot of opposition from the Sheff Weds and Burnleys - teams with tradition and ambition who might resent a non-English club barring their way to future glory and riches.

I doubt very much that we could get straight into the Championship though, so that's a bit of a moot point mate.

In fairness, I'm not certain that leaving Scotland is the right move, but I'm definitely a LOT more open to the idea now than I've ever been and I think quite a lot of clubs down south might well feel the same way and think that we've been treated terribly by our league and the SFA.

I'm almost certain that we'll be staying where we are though and while we'll suffer defeats along the way, it'll be very sweet to eventually get back to the top in Scotland. Thrashing some of those SPL clubs again will make for memorable times.

Wonder if SPL have consulted SKY about their proposals. Or got a new sponsor to replace CB. Probably not I'd think & financial KO's will result without us especially when CG refuses to sign any new SKY deal. They'll soon realise this
