The Ibrox hierarchy have put a one-year extension on the table but the keeper has yet to sign

Wednesday January 2,2013

RANGERS are ready to push Neil Alexander for a quickfire decision on his future.

The Ibrox hierarchy have put a one-year extension on the table but the keeper has yet to put pen to paper. It is understood Alexander is looking for a longer-term offer.

Boss Ally McCoist is keen to keep the 34-year-old and repay the loyalty his No 1 showed the club when they went into administration, when the likes of Allan McGregor, Stevie Naismith and Steven Whittaker walked out on the club.

The Third Division leaders are still trying to land Kilmarnockâ??s Cammy Bell on a pre-contract.

I just want to keep playing well for Kilmarnock for the rest of the season and bring success to this club

The Scotland squad keeper would come in to fight it out with Alexander for the top spot.

McCoist, however, would have to go into the market for two keepers if Alexander decides to move on.

Kilmarnock have offered Bell a new five-year contract in an attempt to keep him at Rugby Park.

The 26-year-old said: â??Weâ??re just trying to iron a few things out and weâ??ll see what happens.

â??Speculation doesnâ??t bother me, though.

â??It has happened to me before when Iâ??ve been linked with moves and that did bother me, but Iâ??ve learned from that.

â??I just want to keep playing well for Kilmarnock for the rest of the season and bring success to this club.â?

Express Sport also broke the story yesterday that Rangers had reopened talks with Hearts defender Ryan McGowan.

The Australian turned down a move to Ibrox in the summer but Rangers have since been told the player would be interested.

Hearts are trying to sell McGowan this month rather than lose him for nothing in the summer.

They have accepted a £250,000 offer from a Chinese club and the 23-year-old is due to travel out there after the Edinburgh derby for talks.

That should give Rangers enough time to finalise their pre-contract offer, although he could find himself frozen out at Tynecastle for the rest of the season if he does agree to make a summer switch to Glasgow.

While McCoistâ??s signing priorities are a new centre-half and striker, Motherwell winger Chris Humphrey could come into the equation.

Interest in St Johnstone midfielder Murray Davidson is dead, however.

Another winger?

Another winger?

My thoughts exactly! We are crying out for some real experienced creativity in the middle of the park and some solidity in central defence. When Temps was out we created next to nothing for weeks on end.

BTW folks ... being interested in Humphreys does not mean that we are not looking at others too. By default, Goian and Bocanegra will be back in June too. Our squad is still rather thin and Templeton and McKay a) need people behind them to give us cover in these positions and b) are not immune to injury either.

On a sidenote, Alexander aside, Gallagher, Hegarty, Cole, Aird, Stella, Wiktorski, Mitchell, Hemmings, and Kyle all have contracts till Summer 2013, likewise the whole coaching trio.

Don't blame Alexander for stalling. He should have a minimum 2 year deal. Keepers go on for longer these days and the loyalty he has shown should be repaid with a good contract.

My sentiments as well,he is young for a keeper and showed a hell of a lot of loyalty to the club during his whole Rangers career

Of course, this could all just be nothing more than rumour-mongering, right on the second day of the transfer window. We will probably see a lot more "outbound" marketing whipped up by the media to draw attention to themselves (as well as the state of our soon-to-be-freebie - players).
