Police launch probe after suspicious fire at Lanarkshire coach yard

 

A fire which tore through the Lanarkshire coach yard that houses Rangers FC team buses 'was set deliberately', police have confirmed.

 

Fire crews, including six fire engines, attended the incident at the garage on Main Street in Salsburgh, North Lanarkshire at around 2.30am on Saturday, following a string of calls from concerned members of the public.

 

Extra resources were brought in from Coatbridge, Motherwell and Cumbernauld community fire stations due to the size and nature of the blaze, which included a number of gas cylinders on the site, the fire service said.

 

There were no staff members inside the depot at the time of the fire but several coaches were damaged and a roof collapsed under the heat of the flames.

 

An investigation has been launched by detectives at Coatbridge Police Station.

 

A spokeswoman for Police Scotland was unable to confirm if either of two buses used by Rangers FC to transport players to and from matches was damaged in the blaze.

 

Detective Constable Cheyne said: "It is still very early in our investigation but it is apparent that the fire was set deliberately. There has been substantial damage to several coaches and the property and it's imperative we trace those responsible.

 

"I am appealing to anyone who may have any information or knowledge regarding this crime to get in touch with us, even if you think your information may not mean much, let us be the judge of that and please do pass it on".

Undoubtedly this bus company was targeted because of its Rangers contracts. Any fool can see that but don't expect the scottish mhedia to make that link.

More info: The fire was at the Bruce's coaches yard in Salsburgh and apparently they have evidence of a break-in to get access to the garage and set the blaze.
