MIKE SUMMERBEE has backed new Rangers chief Graham Wallace to be as big a success at Ibrox as he was at Manchester City.

The City legend rates the 52-year-old highly after working alongside him at Eastlands for four years in his role as club ambassador.

Wallace, who was City's chief operating officer and chief finance officer between 2009 and 2013, was welcomed on to the Rangers board yesterday as their new chief executive.

And Summerbee is adamant snaring Wallace will prove an astute move by the Glasgow giants. He told Record Sport: "It's a great appointment by Rangers - not just because of what he can do in the boardroom but because Graham is just such a good man.

"Rangers couldn't have anyone better for the job.

"Graham played a huge part in stabilising our club and that was really vital to the success we've had in the last couple of years."

Wallace, a chartered accountant from Dumfries, doesn't have long to impress the Rangers support with the club's agm set to be held on December 19, where he'll stand for re-election.

But new chairman David Somers said: "Graham's first class business and financial experience combined with his extensive knowledge of football operations at the highest levels will be of huge benefit as we strive to take the club forward.

"Graham's appointment will also help provide the club with further stability and leadership and we are certain everyone connected with Rangers will wish him every success as he embarks on the job ahead."

Wallace, who previously worked with huge global companies such IMG and MTV Networks Europe, revealed he has high hopes for helping bring future success to the Ibrox club.

He said: "I am delighted to join Rangers as the club continues its journey back to the pinnacle of the game in Scotland and beyond.

"For more than 140 years the club has been recognised throughout world football and while the past few years have been distressing, there is no reason why Rangers can't be even stronger than we were before.

"That strength will be built on strong leadership of the club and the continuing support of the fans.

"I watched from afar as the Rangers support came to the club's aid during the times of turmoil and now it is the turn of the board and management to provide the stability and governance to drive Rangers' recovery forward and ensure further football success."
