I always look forward to your lengthier posts, amms, because there are invariably well made points and reasoned arguments providing food for thought.

But on this one, I think you've been drinking the Kool-Aid.

Yes, I was aware I might not find much of an audience on this one. As an aside I thought 'drinking the Kool-Aid' was a description of someone who followed and agreed unquestioningly. As I'm the only person I know who thinks this way you need to find another metaphor. :-)

Secondly, in what way is it a "fact" that he could have been killed? Which life threatening situations has he been involved in that placed his life in danger?

I think when we look at these "attacks" we find that there is less to them than meets the eye. Bullets in the post and "bombs" that could have been made by Delia Smith are unpleasant but hardly life-threatening. Having a drunken Jambo fall down in front of you must be upsetting when it happens, but it's not going to reduce your lifespan by much.

It was the incident in Ashton Lane I had in mind.

Good point about the rape analogy.

I'll try and muster my thoughts tonight if I've time.

That is indeed the meaning - but my reference was more at you seeming to accept the received MSM wisdom on Lennon than on standing out from the smart kids on Gersnet ;)

I thought it might have been that - but the thing is that he had been drinking (one of his favourite hobbies) and who knows what had transpired before that. If you're going to say that he may have been killed because of his trade because he got into an alcohol related fight, then so may anyone connected with the OF.

Look forward to it.
