Well, I wasn't about in that era, but for some reason that "cup shock" must have send shock waves of 12.0 on the Richter scale at the time ... if you go by the continuous mentioning of it. We suffered dozens of defeats to lower league teams throughout the years since and you wonder whether that has lessened the humdrum that is being made about each such a defeat. Is anyone speaking about the Yahoos' defeat at home against Morton last season or knows the scorer? Outside the odd Greenock pub that is?

I see these cup defeats as a deviation from the norm, a deviation that happens every now and then - all over the world. I still remember some of those scorers who gave us woe in the 80s and 90s in the odd 1-0 defeat, even at home, folk like Adrian Sprott, Kevin Twaddle or Kevin (?) McGowne. Or Ivan Sproule and Allan Johnston. Their once-in-a-lifetime shot at glory, a defining thing in their life and club's history. Nothing defining in our history though.

The defeat to Berwick had far greater repercussions than merely being knocked out of the Scottish Cup.

Those attending the GersNet dinner will be able to get a greater first hand insight to the aftermath if they so wish!

Well, I'm aware of what happened to several staff members, there are a few books on Rangers history and players on my shelf ... they were actually there before the internet made access to somesuch info much easier. Question remains, whether it was such a monumental occasion (as I imagine there were giant-killings back then as well) as it is being portrayed despite dozens of similar events afterwards. Or was/is it actually the resulting staff changes that propelled it to such infamy?
