Compliance Officer Asked To Investigate Early Return of Rangers Player From International Duty

Thursday September 3rd 2015

Ahead of Saturday’s Ladbrokes Championship match versus Rangers at Ibrox, Raith Rovers FC has today asked the Scottish FA’s Compliance Officer to consider whether he agrees that Rangers FC, through David Weir, have breached SFA Articles and Rules by requesting and securing the early release of its player Ryan Hardie from international duty with Scotland Under 19s in Bulgaria, for the sole reason that he is then available to play against Raith Rovers.

Raith Rovers FC also has an important player in the same Under 19 squad, 1st team regular Craig Wighton, and Craig remains in Bulgaria and available for selection for Friday evening’s national representative match. He will fly home with the rest of the squad on Saturday afternoon. We are delighted that Craig is receiving international recognition, and whilst we are without his services for the crucial match with Rangers, our loss is Scotland’s gain.

Naturally we are concerned that if there is any breach of Article 82.1 and Rules 56 & 57, this would – in these circumstances – result in an unfairness in terms of players available for selection for Saturday’s match, which is to our disadvantage.

What a lot of nonsense. Let me get this straight :

1. Ryan Hardie is away representing Scotland. Scotland teams are the remit of the SFA, correct ?

2. Rangers REQUESTED (they didn't fake an injury, refuse to send him etc - but REQUESTED) from the SFA that Ryan Hardie be released from duty early

3. The SFA GRANTED the request - they had every right to deny it but didn't

4. Raith are asking for the SFA Compliance Officer to find that Rangers have been in breach of the rules.

So..... Raith are asking the Compliance Officer to basically find that his employers have been complicit in Rangers breaching his employers rules. If the Compliance Officer finds that Rangers have breached the rules then he also, by inference, finds that his employers are incompetent at best.

Rangers only ASKED for his release - had the SFA said no and we faked an injury, for example, then there is a case to answer. Given we were granted the early release there is no case to answer.

Raith, if they feel aggrieved, should actually be citing the SFA, not Rangers.

Petty-minded nonsense like this is why Scottish football will forever be a backwater.

Shit poor Raith wanting to be 'the good guys' standing up to 'the bad guys' pathetic little club who's only claim to fame remains beating the filth at Ibrox in a cup final.

Hope Warbs brings Hardie on at 5-0 to rub their little noses in it.

Apparently Raith are claiming it's unfair as they couldn't afford to bring their player home, but their statement makes it sound like Rangers did something wrong.

Hardie is a good player, but it's not like he's the sole reason our team is doing so well!
