Celtic, Rangers attractive to Premier League - Warburton

Recommended Posts

In my opinion it will only happen when the tv money going to English football sinks to the level up here, and I just don't see that happening. Then there is the additional obstacle of getting past needing the SFA's permission to have English clubs playing in Scotland on a Saturday when Scottish league matches are taking place. It certainly won't happen in my lifetime.

Similar thread in the football lounge.

IMO it will only happen if the Premier League create a Premier League 2nd tier then the teams there would find it attractive playing Rangers and Celtic more than teams like Rotherham (sorry to pick on them).

But it would do good for the big clubs like Leeds, Wolves and Sheff Wed to get 5000-6000 away fans in their ground and the TV men would find Rangers v Leeds or Celtic v Middlesboro pretty appealing.

If we had went cap in hand to the FA back when we were dumped out the SPL, we might have had a chance to enter the FA National League North or whatever. Even that would have probably been doubtful, now it's a wait till some European super league is formed. Taking away maybe three or four of the biggest English clubs , leaving it open to form a British league or even a second less Super European league.
