STEWART Regan will today announce the head of the independent commission tasked with investigating the shocking scenes at the end of last week's final between Hibs and Rangers.

THE SFA are set to announce the head of their independent commission as Hibs make a move against fans who brought shame to the Scottish Cup Final.

The Easter Road club have slapped life bans on a “number” of fans but are refusing to say how many until after police and SFA investigations are completed.

Hibs have vowed to work closely with the authorities to identify the thugs who brought chaos to Scottish football’s end-of-season showpiece but again stopped short of apologising to Rangers players after they were attacked on the pitch.

SFA chief executive Stewart Regan hopes to announce the chairperson who will oversee the

investigation into the Final’s aftermath at today’s SFA agm at Glasgow’s City Chambers.

Hibs chief executive Leeann Dempster said: “While Police Scotland will continue their own inquiries we’ll continue to review what happened and take the action we think appropriate to protect the club’s good name.

“We will also co-operate fully with the Independent Commission established by the SFA. We have initiated contact with fans informing them of our decision.

“We will continue to identify and impose appropriate sanctions against others involved in unacceptable behaviour.”

A spokesman for Hibs later refused to reveal how many bans had been issued.

He said: “We’ll release that information once the investigation’s concluded.”

Regan had promised an independent review to investigate the circumstances around the disorder that blighted the Final as Hibs won the trophy for the first time in 114 years.

He said: “The commission’s remit will be to review all operational matters relating to the hosting of the Final. It will be convened to analyse the processes and protocols undertaken in the staging of the match.

“In the interests of transparency the commission’s findings will also be published in full.”

The news comes after fatcat fans who invaded the Hampden pitch were warned they will be tracked down. Dozens of suited Hibs punters watched the match from hospitality boxes. However, some joined the thousands of fans on the turf.

The only people who should be investigating anyone are the police , that's the job they do best and to be quite honest I don't trust the sfa

What, like they did at Hillsborough for example? Needs to be independent; police investigating police means they always protect their own.

So they haven't even started the investigation yet?

Staggeringly incompetent, even by the SFA and Regan's low standards. There can be no doubt this is to be dragged out for as long as possible.

I don't think anyone is surprised by this!,I'm sure Stewart Robertson said in an interview he hopes for this to be resolved before the start of this season!,I the club forces this through.

It still doesn't excuse the fact that Petrie hasn't been sacked yet, that doesn't need an investigation!

You know, if the police had apologised that they would normally have been there in numbers but they were expecting extra time and so got caught on the hop, they might have had some sympathy, but they really have made a rod for their own back...
