Yep, but in rugby you have far more serious rules about swearing and talking back at the ref. Knowing how the referee will be likely to deal with, say, scrum. lineout, and offside, can be helpful; very helpful. In football, knowing the predilections, and peccadilloes of the referee may likewise be helpful.
