Steven McLean set to referee his first Old Firm match

Recommended Posts

I agree he made mistakes in the Aberdeen match but right now he is the best we have. He is far better than Collum or Thomson and deserves his chance.

That doesn't really matter as they are all a very poor standard in Scotland, worse than ever!, maybe if he gives us a dodgy decision it will cause another strike?

He's one of the worst in the Scottish game at present, one of those who commits the cardinal sin as a referee of believing the game is about him rather than the players.

The referee at Hamilton a few weeks ago was excellent, Alan Muir I think it was. It will be interesting to see if the SFA afford him the same opportunities as some of the absolute roasters we've had to suffer in recent years.

Steven McLean - the facts you wont read from the Green side.

Jas Boyd · @Jas72Boyd

He has refereed 15 Rangers games (most of which were during our lower league stint) and 19 Celtic games.

In those games, we have lost 27% of them when he is the ref. Celtic have lost only 16%

In those games, he has red carded a Rangers player 27% of the time compared to 10.5% for Celtic.

On average he books 1.67 Rangers players per game compared to 1.63 Celtic players per game.

Celtic have been given 2 penalties in those games. Rangers have been given none.

Rangers score on average 2 goals per game compared to Celtics 2.6 per game.

Rangers concede 1.1 goals per game compared to Celtics 0.9 per game.

If he is biased towards Rangers, then he is absolutely honking at it, given every conceivable measurement above favours Celtic in a time when we were playing the likes of Berwick, Cowdenbeath, Dumbarton et all.

This is claptrap and a period assessment.

Am I right in thinking it is the SFA who recommend these imbeciles or do UEFA watch them? I'm sure its the former?

The FIFA list is made up of the referees who get the highest marks from the referee supervisors AND clubs in their respective countries.

Once a referee is on the FIFA list it is up to UEFA (or whichever Confederation) which games if any they get and those that UEFA regard as the best go on the Elite List which generally means they will get CL games rather than Europa League.

So as I say, like it or not these two are regarded as in the top 25 in Europe.
