McParland's arrival at the City Ground comes just three weeks after his acrimonious exit from Rangers and fuels speculation that Mark Warburton could arrive as manager in the summer.

 

Former Rangers head of recruitment Frank McParland has been appointed Nottingham Forest 's new director of football, fuelling speculation that Mark Warburton could arrive as manager in the summer.

 

The 56-year-old has joined the Championship club on a temporary basis until the end of the season with a view to making the role permanent.

 

McParland left Rangers along with Wurburton and assistant boss David Weir last month in an acrimonious parting of the ways after a turbulent season.

 

An approach from Forest was cited as the reason for the breakdown in communication at Ibrox between the decision-makers that led to the trio's departure.

 

Rangers claim they were forced to accept their 'resignation' after an agent tried to broker a deal that would see the management team find a new club - believed to be Forest - only for the move to fall through.

 

However Warburton, Weir and McParland furiously denied they had resigned with the matter now heading to the courtroom.

 

McParland's arrival at Forest today is certain to raise eyebrows again although Academy manager Gary Brazil remains in charge at the City Ground until the end of the season.

 

Former Liverpool Academy director McParland's arrival at Ibrox two seasons ago was seen as a major coup for the club with Warburton - who he worked with at Brentford - billing him as the best talent spotter in Britain.

 

But Rangers' transfer dealings this season were one of the major reasons the tide turned against the management team with big names arrivals Joey Barton and Philippe Senderos flopping and NIko Kranjcar and Jordan Rossiter spending most the season out injured.

 

Forest find themselves just four points above the relegation zone and have turned to McParland in the hope he can protect owner Fawaz Al Hasawi's investment.

 

The Kuwaiti businessman has been trying to sell Forest for some time and a deal with American John Jay Moores collapsed two months ago.

Forest could easily drop to the third tier this year, they are only a few points clear of the relegation zone and played a game more than a few teams. I always had a soft spot for Forest (and Sheff Wed) but if MW and DW go there I would quite happily see them go down.
