It's 'persecution' meaning anything that doesn't go his way is persecution despite the fact he in effect assaulted the referee regardless of how minor the assault was. It's totally unacceptable. Allow that to pass and it's a gradation from there as pushing the referee around becomes par for the course. If the ego can do it why can't I? I can't remember which player it was but I recall reading a story from an ex Rangers player during which he mentioned being involved in a match Tiny was reffing. He took exception to a decision Tiny had made against Rangers across the field from him and was running towards him full speed to aggressively remonstrate. He said that as he got closer and the man mountain came into fuller perspective growing bigger and bigger I ended up just running straight past him saying nothing at all. That's the effect he had.
