Safe Standing Survey Results

Dear Supporter,

Club 1872 and the Union Bears recently held a survey into safe standing which received thousands of responses from supporters. The responses were sent to Rangers to verify the data and we have now received the figures back from the club.

As a result, Rangers now have a verified list of just over 2300 supporters who are interested in being located in a safe standing section. There will also be a further opportunity for those who did not fill in the survey to give their views on safe standing in general, in an upcoming supporter survey to be carried out by Rangers.

Club 1872 met last week with the Union Bears and both groups are in agreement that this is an excellent first step towards creating a positive and vibrant safe standing section within the ground. Both groups will now liaise with Rangers on the next steps and the cost of creating such a section and will also seek to give input into the club’s own survey of supporters.

We would like to thank all those who took part in the survey and we will update all supporters on progress once there is something further to report. We would also remind members that any use of Club 1872 funds to help finance safe standing will be subject to a member vote.

It shouldn't be voted on imo.  C1872  cash shouldn't be used for stuff like this.

Either the club pay for it or UB and those using the facility should meet the cost.

The people who contribute to C1872 should have every opportunity to vote on this.

If you disagree with a big decision like this going to a vote, you'd be better making your case to C1872 direct.

It Should be voted on IMO - UB and others who wish the safe standing area are more than likely contributors to C1872 just like the rest of us who contribute.

Hopefully the outcome of the vote, however, is that C1872 will NOT be providing any C1872 funds for the project.  My personal belief is that if this is seen as worthwhile in terms of creating atmosphere, better game day experience then the Club and/or those who wish the safe standing area should pay for it.  If there are any excess C1872 funds (surely with an upcoming share issue they should be keeping ALL their powder dry, aside from the funds that are being contributed specifically for "projects") then I would much prefer that they be used to upgrade the disabled facilities - something which will soon be a NECESSITY, whereas safe standing is a "want, not a need".

Why not go the full way and make the broomloan all standing better still remove the roof and give them all a taste of standing in the rain to enjoy the atmosphere of the 60s let  them bring in the Swally so the fans can experience pissing in a jagged can and pouring it over someone's ankles let the monkeys have their standing area at parkhead but let's keep our stadium something to be proud of

Were you not proud of Ibrox Stadium when the Enclosures were terraced or Ibrox Park prior to the 1980s?

Most of the fantastic stadiums in Germany have safe standing areas.

I'm in two minds about this. On the one hand it may add to match day experience but on the other theres a reason why the terraces were taken down and the money to rebuild the stadium was raised on the back of that through the Rangers Pools and other initiatives.

I agree with that.  It's a sensitive subject.

One of Liverpool's fan groups recently visited the Piggery to check out the safe standing there.  Read into that what you will but I think a lot of fans are sick of the sterile atmosphere at British football and want to see safe standing become more widespread.  I'm in that bracket myself.
