i heard rangers are upgrading ibrox i think it is a great idea

it was on the back page of the daily rebel today. apparently a 3 year plan to increase the capacity to aound 57k by lowering the pitch and replacing the screens in the 2 corners which will require cantilever support as with the govan stand.

RANGERS are planning a major redevelopment of Ibrox - but it won't be completed until Walter Smith has finished his rebuilding.

 

Record Sport understands plans have already been drawn up to increase the stadium's capacity to around 57,000.

 

Architects have found room for around 5000 new seats by ripping out the jumbo TV screens in two corners of the ground and lowering the pitch.

 

Two new cantilever extensions - similar to the one which was added to the Govan Stand last summer - have been earmarked for the Copland Road and Broomloan Road stands at each end of the ground.

 

But the massive revamp will be phased in gradually over the next three years - and its completion will depend on the success of Smith in building a team worth watching.

 

Rangers chairman David Murray would be reluctant to finance the entire facelift unless he is sure Smith is in charge of a side which is attractive enough to fill the increased capacity.

 

That means Murray will have to find the cash to help Smith overhaul his squad this summer, with the manager believing he will need as many as seven new first-team regulars if he is to recapture the SPL trophy from Celtic.

 

In fact, Rangers have now gone two seasons without winning any silverware and Smith will need a fighting fund in excess of �£10million to enable him to stop the rot.

They fucked this up years ago .... the original plan was to fill in the corners completely minus the big screens, and would have at the time (they said) took the capacity to 59,500 (that may have been when the enclosure was still around)

 

Now we wait for over a decade and then decide to do it, which will now of course cost us much more to do now than it would have then, plus we would be struggling to fill it with the shite product we have on the pitch at the mo!

For WS building a side attractive enough to watch, as reported in the article, read: a team that wins. Guaranteed thats the real issue.

 

Deosn't matter what the quality of football is like a winning team attracts more fans. Ask Chelsea!

An all 3 tier ibrox would be amazing (that's what i loved about fifa football manager) lol

We can't sell out Ibrox currently, so why put in extra seats? There will be plenty empty spaces at Ibrox in the coming years if the current regime and form continues.

 

Why not use the money to fund new players or invest it in the Youth Academy?

I would rather the squad to get rebuilt first than the stadium i dont think we would fill a 57000 seated stadium with a half good team
