The New Saints manager Scott Ruscoe has confirmed the details of next week’s friendly with Rangers, in Steven Gerrard’s first action as manager of the Famous.

The Welsh champions and Champions League hopefuls will travel up to Glasgow on Tuesday for an apparent closed-door clash at The Hummel Training Centre, with Gerrard looking to see how many dividends the camp at Malaga paid.

Ruscoe said:

"Falkirk on Friday and Rangers on Tuesday will be tests for us and the first games where the performance is more important than anything else."

TNS beat Falkirk on Friday 2-0, so while little can be accurately measured at this point, Rangers are facing a team whose morale has taken a little boost and it is a very healthy test to open Gerrard’s account.

The corresponding fixture last pre-season was a disappointing 1-1 draw, and while Ruscoe is right to say performance is paramount, a win would be good for the mood, which is already pretty buoyant at Ibrox these days it has to be said.

We don’t have a kick off time  but it’s safe to say fans all over will be eager to hear how the first match of Gerrard’s managerial career at Ibrox goes.
