Tranent v Haddington (aka Ian Black discussion)

Recommended Posts

Still the only 3rd division player to be capped for Scotland. Dominated the 2012 Cup final when hearts beat Hibs 5-1. Rangers and Celtic were both linked with him that season. Never lived up to the hype after he signed, but then who did. Still surprised he ended up in the juniors though..

  • Frankie changed the title to Tranent v Haddington (aka Ian Black discussion)

Ian Black could have signed for English Championship teams in 2012, so it’s fair to assume he was on a decent wage at us. Even in division 3 we had the 2nd highest wage bill (and income) in the country. Do folk think the likes of Black, Shiels & Templeton took a wage cut to play in the 3rd division??

It’s not really fair to make the wage up.

The moral of the story: being capped by Scotland and playing well for non old firm Scottish sides counts for very little. I don't think it's a coincidence that all these Scottish league players we signed then completely bombed.
