British Lions - not a rugger fan but don't see the point. Rugby World Cup has 4 nations. As for the Olympics, I don't feel any great affinity with Team GB (although it OUGHT to be Team UK). No the only thing stopping it is the parochialism of the English clubs and their self-preservation. oh, and Eufa with their opposition to cross-border leagues. Take away football supporters and their perception of an identity (that fuels loyalty) and you have no football, at least as we know it. You say you can merge teams into a UK XI and that it would be hysterical nonsense to protest about losing identity because it's only football. Last time we returned from Ufa to play at Parkhead after they had played at home on the Thursday.
