Glen Kamara ITV Interview

I doubt Facebook/Instagram or racists in central Europe (or elsewhere) will feel any negative effects of this boycott.  Certainly not enough to consider changes are required.

The current media reaction to racist abuse might actually have the opposite effect of that intended (I'm sure zitty Instagrammers in Prague, Cork or Napoli would love to say something newsworthy).

The extent as to the effect of any moratorium on social media activity can be debated but if it adds to the pressure on the companies then it can't be a bad thing - especially if other clubs and personalities take up the baton.

A valid ID requirement, in order to have a social media account, seems to be a popular way to stop abuse on these platforms but that could be considered discriminatory in itself because people from less advanced parts of the world might not then have access.

It's completely futile expecting social media companies to control who uses their platforms when anyone they ban can be back up and running ten minutes later with a new account. If you can't control user identities, you can't control their actions. Such control is definitely possible but users would abandon ship like snow off a dyke if they did and these are businesses, not social workers.

Here's a tip. Social media is a cesspit of ignorance, hysteria and bigotry. If you put your hand in the fire you'll get burned and if you use social media you can expect to be abused. Whether you think that's good or bad, it's a reality. It's not in the interests of the providers to fix this problem, although they could, so either stop using it or stop being offended by what you know you'll find there. You can have control or you can have anonymity, take your pick.

The onlway these social media moguls would take notice would be for the top black American sportsmen plus movie and showbusiness people to come out and publicly leave all these platforms.

Most of them would be back next day, realising how much they actually cherish the publicity.

Haggerty and the like are already gearing up for an onslaught the next time an, ahem, more choice song gets sung at a Rangers match (it only takes a few blokes to sing it within earshot of the wrong person/microphone).

UEFA make no distinction between sectarianism and racism.

Yes, the uncomfortable truth that victimhood is the weapon of choice for every bigot under the sun and apparently it can be acquired quite spontaneously for the very best exponents of the he-said-she-said brigade. For grand masters like Haggerty ears need play little part. Where necessay, offence can be conjured up by imagination alone.
