Not sure why we are getting so hung up on formations in here.

The conventional wisdom these days is less about formations and more about attacking spaces - was it not Spaletti that coined this approach when he said that he isnt overly fussed on formations (aside from a base) and that the game had progressed and is more about being in the spaces before your opponent ?

I am positive I saw an interview with a new signing (not sure if it was one of ours, or one of the big ones in the EPL) where they also said that the manager was more about spaces than formations.

Formations are great, but they should never be rigid - obviously you arent going to play a 0-6-4 but you have a base formation around which everything can then become fluid.

Asides, for the most part Beale has operated in similar fashion to Gerrard in that the front 5 or 6 are very fluid (which makes it difficult to defend) but whether thats a 3-3, a 2-3-1, a 3-1-2 it almost doesnt matter

You are correct, but don't mistake that for lack of structure: there's still a base formation and then a formation in defence and attack. Guardiola is tyrannical about attacking space, but he is still equally tyrannical about rigid structures in attack and defence.

Even one of the most chaotic managers, Fluminense's Fernando Diniz, still has a structure.

I was just correcting dB, as he stated we were playing with one up front. He also still thinks we were playing a 4-2-3-1 - he was suggesting such even when we used the Christmas tree under Gerrard!

That and there's no football to watch!! :D

Totally fine snaps. If I make snaps from games like that, I can convince you that we actually play 2-1-5-2 for large parts of every game. That's not how we actually line up though.

That's 6 snaps throughout the whole f*cking game.

Have to agree with Rousseau.

Although our formation is fluid we have essentially been using two strikers for several months now; Sakala and Morelos were working together to reasonable affect when I recall this first happening late last year even if both drifted in and out of form subsequently (the latter less so).

FWIW, it doesn't always look like an orthodox front two per se, as they tend to play from the outside of each centre back and/or drift deep but that has been the setup in many games since; latterly using the diamond of Jack/Raskin/Lundstram/Cantwell variations towards the end of the season.

Back on topic though:

South American journo suggesting deal for Cifuentes has been done.

Practically closed the José Cifuentes to Rangers of Scotland. The clubs have an agreement. Cifu will have its chance in European football, in a traditional club. It may be your gateway to a stronger league.
