Yes, but what performance improvements are required to win the league?

Better recruitment,

Better player trading model,

Better backroom staff,

Better fitness levels,

Better medical staff to reduce injuries and reduce time taken to be fit,

Better backroom staff and specialised coaches,

Better financial management,

Better short, medium and long term planning

That's just a start, but yeah, in short just win the league 😤

KPIs have to be measurable.

We can't judge 'better recruitment', 'better planning', etc., if we don't have something to measure it by.

This highlights the problems in conversing with fans on these issues: we're so emotional - rightly so, it is Rangers - that we reduce complex business and operational practices into vague desires.

I disagree, better recruitment and better planning can be measured.

However, emotion plays a big part, as is shown by "just win the league". That's the goal for us all. Some will see / care about what requires to happen  to achieve that. The majority won't, they just want to win the league.

I assumed 'better planing', 'better recruitment' was your KPIs, which are not KPIs as they're not measurable. A KPI is a specific target.

You've just presented some vague aims, which is fine - no one would disagree with them.

My point is that we can't judge the success of 'better recruitment' without a KPI to measure.

The club could release general goals but it's pretty meaningless because fans will disagree with other fans, and then the club will judge it to different standards again.

A basic fitness KPI would be: cover an average distance of x km per game. Fans can't get this info to judge the success or not - and then they'll be swayed by their feeling of a player.

I also don't think the club should be disclosing that kind of stuff; I feel like it's disclosing state secrets!

All good points and we can discuss until the cows come home, however there can be no doubt that we have to do certain things better and certain things differently or we'll at best stand still, or worse, regress further.

Immeasurable, in large part, 'fitness'  excepted.   Or, at least, they may only be measurable by success on the park - ie winning the fucking league (for a change).

(You can throw in success in the Cups, and reaching European Group Stages, or even QFs, too.)

As a list of policy prescriptions, I don't disagree.

There are eight in your list, and seven of these are, quite clearly, the responsibility of a 'Football Department'. ('Better financial management' seems to cut across all aspects of the Company.)

Perhaps a Director of Football, with full responsibility for all of the areas you identify, although not, ultimately, financial management, despite having a contributory role there, is required.

I think that that is a difficult position , especially eg when the usual model is to appoint a 'team' of coaches, so individual changes may be difficult. It's not quite like buying a better rb, or dm, or whatever.

And, what just what is a 'better medical department'? It has to be reactive, obviously, but is there scope for it to be proactive, and help prevent injuries, or specific types of injury? This might get you towards something measurable, but different players, of course, have different susceptibilities, and might not give you the comparison you seek.

This drifts into recruitment, and perhaps a more thorough and rigorous analysis of the players' careers, and like physical/medical/psychological examinations would be required.

Have been saying this from 55 season, the board really need to step up to the plate. I don't mean personally finance the club, but find investors who help drive us forward.

At the moment their policy appears to be hoping we win the league with as little net investment as possible, which as we've seen again isn't realistic.

If nothing changes, we'll be in their shadow for the next two decades, as well as having been in their shadows for most of the last 15 or so years. That's the painful truth kf the situation.

That is unfortunately the current outlook.

The board always said that the investment would be front loaded and that resulted in us getting 55 and Seville.

There's little to no further investment on the horizon as far as I can see. We now need to be self-sustaining and that's going to be limiting.

We had a chance this season and we did remarkably well to win our Europa group and claw back the deficit, but it just fell away from us at the end, for whatever reason...partly overperforming  and partly injuries (and other reasons). Not winning the league this season allows them to invest bigger and it's going to be more difficult to overtake them.

I'm not sure that there are further investors out there who will be willing to invest significant sums in a club in Scotland, so we need to manage our resources better and hope for a bit of luck but we're still suffering from the legacy of being sent down the leagues and it will take some clever handling by the management team to claw it back overt the next few years.
