Rangers Appeal McGregor Red Card

Recommended Posts

Rangers will formally appeal to the SFA to have Allan McGregor's sending off in the Scottish Cup 5th Round tie with Hibs at the weekend overturned.

McGregor was red carded after referee Craig Thomson judged that he had fouled Dean Shiels on the edge of the box with minutes to go in the pulsating cup tie.

The keeper clearly felt the decision as incorrect, claiming he reached the ball ahead of the Hibs man, and having reviewed video footage of the incident, the club have moved to have the red card rescinded.

The SFA will make a final decision on the matter, with normal practice involving a video review panel consisting of former referees, players and coaches who analyse any available footage.

If the ordering off is overturned, the Rangers number one will again be eligible to take his place between the sticks when the two sides meet again to replay the tie, on a date yet to be fixed by the SFA.

I don't think there was enough in the challenge to give him a straight red, went down just a bit to easy. Becoming a bad habbit in the SPL.

I felt McGregor knew exactly what he was doing. Bring him down outside the box and get sent off but save a goal.

Was a great challenge, if he brings him down in the box, they go though

Doesnt come out at all they will score and go through

McGregor brings him down at the edge of the box, we get a red card but should be safely through to the semi finals now

Well done Alan :D

RANGERS LOSE APPEAL ON MCGREGOR SENDING OFF

Tuesday, 05 Feb 2008

Rangers’ Claim of Wrongful Dismissal on the sending off of Allan McGregor in the club’s Scottish Cup tie against Hibernian on Sunday has been dismissed.

The player had been sent off by referee Craig Thomson for denying an obvious goalscoring opportunity in a incident with Dean Shiels of Hibernian.

In accordance with the provisions for Claims of Wrongful Dismissal, the referee is given the opportunity to review the circumstances of the sending off. Craig Thomson has indicated that he is content with his decision to send the player off.

The Claim is therefore dismissed.

Given the Scottish Cup has its own specific Disciplinary Procedures, McGregor will be suspended for the replay against Hibernian.

Does no one else think he got a touch on the ball?

Yes he took out the man and it was a foul, but I still say he got a touch on the ball.

Yellow should have been the card given. OK the ref didn't see it, but surely after tv replay he must see the ball changes spin - and Sheils had already pushed the ball in a forward motion.

Ach well, didn't expect anything less
