Ferguson still harboured hopes of the job permanently and knew he'd need to go on a good winning run to be in with a chance. No way he was allowing one of our centre halves to miss the last part of the season, even though it was all but over. The club was in such a state of flux with ownership change and senior appointments still not sorted no one was going to over rule him.
der Berliner 4,339
To say that transfer news are slow is a nice understatement. Its speed can be measured in "Angstrom per Week" these days ... PS: The angstrom (/ˈæŋstrəm/; ANG-strəm) is a unit of length equal to 10−10 m; that is, one ten-billionth of a metre, a hundred-millionth of a centimetre, 0.1 nanometre, or 100 picometres. In Scotland its referred to as a bawhair.
lenny3k 899
I really don't think the transfer rumours will really pick up until Martin has had the players for at least a few days of preseason and he's had a chance to see them on the training pitch and speak to them face to face. Most return Monday, I think it will be pretty quiet until Wednesday next week at least

Someone described a raving reporter as being "just a bawhair's width away from the loony bin".

Thelwell and Purdy will make all the big calls on transfers and they have been well aware of the playing squad since January. I made a point that when Martin was hired, that from that point forward he needed to rely on the football operations team to build him a squad which will give him a fighting chance. Some of the names linked so far, and lack of actual 'ins' at the moment make it seem like he will have an uphill struggle.

Thelwell and Purdy should be leading the squad-building process, and Martin has to trust them to give him the tools he needs. I just think the delay in movement might be because Martin will still want to evaluate a few things firsthand, figure out where his most urgent need is. For example, we've been told, the Propper deal hasn't gone through yet because he wants to speak to the new manager.... If it’s just a conversation, surely that could’ve been done over the phone by now?
