We had Terry Butcher, Chris Woods, Roberts, Trevor and Gary Stevens, Ray Wilkins,

It's well documented Souness' signing policy when he came to us was to lure top English internationals because of the Heysel ban in Europe.

So I don't think it's wide of the mark to suggest we effectively signed the England team, it was even reported.

Philosophy culture, jargon.

He signed high level players and dragged everything up.

It's amazing to see months of analysis, planning, careful recruitment, coaching, hard, hard work and no little financial risk dismissed as simply 'signing the England team' by some anonymous guy on a messageboard. Despite it being demonstrably incorrect.

You got to love the internet.

I could have used Wenger or Klopp or many others.

You could have used any proven winners as examples of managers who make improvements at a new club.

Seems like we're trying to make basic arithmetic (winning) into rocket science (culture) here.

It's amazing to see the revisionism on display by yourself, genuinely.

We got a lucky opportunity with English clubs getting banned in Europe, and had the money to do something about it thanks to David Murray.

I'm hoping the wolves bid for coady is accurate and he goes there.

Would like to think Max Aarons gets announced today.

I get the feeling I'm not explaining myself well. It's not just about making improvements. Gerrard made improvements but he didn't change the culture. There are plenty of examples of attempts to change a culture that failed too. Le Guen is the most obvious example where Rangers are concerned. He was hired to change us from a Scottish style of club to a continental style. He failed to do that. The club wouldn't change, he didn't implement or explain the changes he wanted well enough, influential players didn't buy into his vision. There are probably more examples of failure than success in all honesty. Culture change has to come from the very top and the person/people implementing it needs to be backed all the way.

Le Guen was offski when he got offered the PSG job. His biggest challenge was the monster munch brigade none of whom survived when Walter Smith returned

I forgot it was David Murray who appointed Souness and bankrolled the signing the England team in the summer of 1986. Hopefully he'll return to the club and do it again. 👍
