Latest FIFA World Rankings

Recommended Posts

Spain are the new world number one-ranked side after their victory at the European Championship but England have fallen six places to 15th.

The Spanish moved up three places to depose last month's leaders Argentina after their victory over Germany in the final of Euro 2008 on Sunday.

England's absence from the tournament denied them competitive action and as a result they fell outside the top 10 just a month after re-entering it.

Scotland are ranked 16th and Northern Ireland are down one in 33rd, the Republic of Ireland (41) are up one with Wales (54) dropping a place.

World champions Italy are second in the rankings, with Germany's appearance in the final lifting them to third, ahead of Brazil, Holland and Argentina.

The biggest movers of the top 10 are Croatia, up eight places to seventh, while Czech Republic, Portugal and France complete the list of the best sides in the world.

I know a lot of people think the way these rankings are determined is a bit shabby and you can't judge much by them, but when was the last time tehre was one place between us and the English?

Even if we had that supposed tournament with NI, Wales and Eire we would have likely gone ahead or does it have to be official FIFA matches?

We need to get a friendly with them arranged and gub them at Wembley

Being slightly cynical BUT is it not the english FA stopping the home nations or us playing them?

Going by maybe the last two years and the underachievement of their national team, do you think they are scared? We beat them and every chance we go ahead of them in the rankings (if frienlies or home nationals count)

I don't think they are necessarily scared - it isnt just the last two years they have avoided an Auld Enemy game - they have been rejecting the idea for more than 10 years.

Thats true Craig, but it has been mentioned for a few years and it was England that said no this/last year to it. JUst so happens we were still only a place behind them.

My only concern would be the risk of violence, other than that I would love it to be a regular thing.

The violence would be one issue with the FA's, but its sad that the rugby sides can play each other every year without fail and not 1 arrest is ever made.

Scotland, NI, Wales and Celtic are all up for it so this 4 team comp should start then England may be tempted
