The next thirty-one days........

Regardless of whther, in our eyes, he makes a balls-up of the rest of the season, does anyone think Murray has the gumption to give him the bullet. I don't think so.

Murray will never fire Smith. This manager gives Murray everything he wants, loyalty and acquiescence, However, it's possible Smith would find it impossible to stay if the fans turned on him en masse; he's still enough of a Rangers man not to want to lose everything he's achieved.

Of course, whether that would lead to any improvement is doubtful, with McCoist already lined up as Murray's next trick

But what happens if we manage the unthinkable and win the SPL this season? SDM is vindicated and Smith will be lauded as a saviour for bringing the title back home by the majority of the support. Strange as this may sound, I find that a bit worrying as that title win could let SDM & WS continue to hide the fact that not everything is all right and we're actually in the shit, both on and off the park. Its similar to the time when Eck's European run was hiding the fact that the club was in a right state, but those results in Europe were effectively keeping him in the job.

It's a hell of a dilemma right enough. Two last-gasp titles in eight years have kept the current regime in business when without these celtic would now be half a season away from repeating nine in a row and the Rangers support would be in uproar. As it is, Murray kept his core support and the decline continues - he can only hold that support for so long but it would be nice to have limited the damage. What has happened to the club over the last eight years certainly wasn't worth sacrificing for those two titles.
