Germans will be back for Beasley

Recommended Posts

GERMAN giants Schalke are lining up a summer swoop for Rangers winger DaMarcus Beasley.

The Bundesliga side tried to land the American in the January window on an initial loan deal with a view to a permanent move.

But the deadline day move failed to beat the clock and Beasley - who was interested in moving to Schalke - remained at Ibrox.

However, reports in Germany today claimed that the former PSV Eindhoven man features prominently on coach Fred Rutten's wish list. Rutten is known to be an admirer of Beasley, having previously worked with him during his time as Guus Hiddink's assistant at Eindhoven.

Beasley has never really producing consistent form after his £750,000 from Holland 18 months ago and also hampered by an unfortunate knee injury.

If they're so desperate then hopefully we can get a fee for him and at least recoup out initial outlay...

You'd think they'd have learned their lesson with Lovenkrands... ;)

Yip, lets sell our only true attcking left sided player (that we own) and continue to play players out of position........

Don't worry Cammy Walter will bring in a centre-half to fill the position.

Fleck can play there comfortably and Naismith and Aaron have looked more impressive in their cameo roles.

Beasley is not so attacking. He is negative when he gets the ball, does not utilise his pace, does not attack his man and merely passes the ball back to Papac.

In any case, any fee received for him could be used to bring in a replacement.

The truth is, a few decent game (like Lyon away) aside, he just has not performed.

Haven't you read about the state of our finances? Any fee's gained from selling players won't be reinvested in the squad - we are in the process of trying to reduce the playing staff by at least 8 first team players.....

Aaron doesn't belong to us, and given that he has had the total of 35 minutes playing time, we can't say for certain that he is a genuine talent and capable of holding down a place in our first team. Given that we would have to pay in the region of £2M for his services, can't see us signing him on a permanent basis.

Fleck isn't a left winger, he is being used out there as a 'stop-gap'. Naismith is a forward and hasn't looked comfortable wide left - in fact, I'd go as far to say that he's looked worse than Lafferty outwide on the left.

I find it amazing that as a support we give Walter Smith stick for playing players out of position then go out of our way to shoe-horn a player into a position that isn't their natural position.

Papac wasn't considered a LB when we signed him. Yet he's better than in his natural position. Same for Broadfoot on the right.

I don't think we should keep Beasley and play him on the left just because that's his natural position and this worry of playing players "out of position".

If Fleck, Aaron (who we have for another year with an option to buy) and Naismith (I disagree with your assessment, if you want to talk about an attacking player on the left he looks far more positive than Beasley) all look better out there than him, then what does that say about Beasley? Players out of position do his job better than him!

He's about 5th choice at the minute. Hardly a glowing recommendation (sp). You are right, in this time of financial prudence, continuing to pay a player who is behind 3 or 4 strikers for his own position in the team does not make sense.

If he can't even get a game ahead of players out of position then what use is he. In this instance I don't blame Smith, (well I do for signing him). If Beasley is so poor in his own position players are getting played out of position in front of him we are better getting rid.

And for a supposedly attacking player he isn't half negative. Rarely attacks his fullback. We're crying out for pace and width and Beasley, whilst having the attributes, does not produce that on the field. In short his performances are quite cowardly as he time and again refuses to take responsibility and run at his man.

If he is so negative and so far behind those you mention, how come he has scored more goals from that position than any other player you've mentioned?

Beasley was settling into that position last season and was looking a decent player. He was outstanding (as were the rest of the team) in the 3-0 destruction of Lyon where he capped a fine performance with a great goal. He was also the highlight of last season scottish cup final, scoring and setting up a goal.

Papac and Broadfoot have done well in their adopted positions, but playing 4 centre-halves across the backline has hindered Rangers' attacking ability this season. Both fullbacks have also been caught out and we've conceeded goals due to their lack of positioning.

We can't, no matter how much we want to, say that Fleck and Aaron are going to be superstars for Rangers. We can't even say they are going to be first team regulars. Both have done well in their brief appearences, but I'll say something that may sound controversial, but IMO is just the plain and simple truth.

I'd say that Burke, Adam and to a lesser extent MCormack looked more promising in their fledgling Rangers careers than both Fleck and Aaron have done to this point.
