  2. Friday, 13 September 2019, 20:00 by Rangers Football Club 131 HAVING been instrumental in successfully revamping the football department, Rangers Football Club can announce that Director of Football Mark Allen has informed them he is to leave the club. Mark has decided that now is the right time for him to move on for family reasons and in order to explore other options, and leaves with the clubs best wishes. Rangers fully respects Mark’s decision and wishes to place on record its thanks to Mark for his hard work and diligence since joining the Club in the summer of 2017. In that short time he has helped move Rangers into a significantly stronger and more challenging position. During his tenure, Mark has made a hugely positive impact in bringing in a higher quality of first-team player and he has led the renovation and improvement of the Hummel Training Centre, making it fit for a club the size of Rangers. Managing Director Stewart Robertson commented: “On behalf of the Board, I would like to thank Mark for his work in recent seasons. We are disappointed to lose him but we appreciate the impact he made during his time in Scotland and he leaves Rangers in a better place than when he first arrived. Losing a man of his calibre is a blow but the practices he put in place at the club will stand us in good stead for the future. We wish Mark well in his future career.” Mark Allen said: “It has been a privilege to work for Rangers, one of the biggest clubs in football with such a phenomenal fan base, and I’ve loved every minute. Bringing Steven Gerrard to the club will always be a special point in my career and I would like to thank him, his excellent staff, the players and all the staff at Rangers for their support throughout my tenure. My greatest wish is for Rangers to start winning trophies again and I wish them all the very best for the future” Steven Gerrard said: “I would like to place on record my sincere gratitude to Mark for the incredible support he has shown to me and all of my staff since I came to the club 16 months ago. Mark’s success here is evident for all to see and we would all like to wish him well moving forward.”

  5. https://www.gofundme.com/f/defibrillators-in-memory-of-peter-derrick Ibrox area defibrillator fundraiser in memory of Peter Derrick Dear member, You may be aware that Peter Derrick, the owner of the Viceroy Bar on Paisley Road West passed away recently after suffering a cardiac arrest in the pub. Despite immediately receiving CPR from a Viceroy customer, he sadly died twelve days later. This was a tragic incident which has left family, friends and customers of this much loved member of the Rangers community determined to honour his memory by installing defibrillators at various points between the Viceroy Bar and Ibrox Stadium. Peter’s daughter, Robyn said, “We are all devastated. We’ve been robbed of my dad. He loved his life and lived his life to the fullest. He played golf with his friends the night before his life, he was bursting with energy and had so much more to give. I want to focus on helping other families. Our family want to give other families a chance. A cardiac arrest can happen to anyone, and every moment is precious. One minute or five minutes - it makes a big difference.” Peter’s family have so far exceeded their original target of £12,000 but they want to fund as many defibrillators as possible in the Ibrox area, so their fundraising efforts continue. 13. Why did no club down south sign him?
  14. How did I forget that?. Old age does not come alone.
  15. £7M for Kent. Hopefully the club used the Seville calculator.
  16. As I was under it could not see what it depicted. Know now it was from a Iron Maiden song/album ? Must have been a lot of work put into it, but what was the point? I can’t see any Rangers or football connections, or am I missing something? Hidden meaning?
  17. https://www.heraldscotland.com/opinion/17874264.1956-1968-scot-symon-football-great/ 5 hrs ago 1956-1968: Scot Symon, a football great By Russell Leadbetter SCOT Symon was the manager of Rangers when in October 1956 they played their first-ever match in the European Cup. Rangers beat the French team, Nice, 2-1 in the first leg at Ibrox but lost the second leg, in France, by the same scoreline. The replay, on November 28, took place at the Parc des Princes stadium, in Paris; Rangers, badly missing their inspirational captain George Young, lost 3-1. The Evening Times described the three encounters as a ‘blood and thunder serial story’. The main picture (far right) shows Rangers keeper George Niven signing an autograph at Renfrew Airport when the team arrived home after the first game in France, with Symon just behind him. “James Scotland Symon,” says the Rangers website, “was different from most football managers in that he had none of the extrovert characteristics often associated with the role. He was a quiet and reserved man who had been a Rangers player under legendary manager Bill Struth. “By the time he was chosen to succeed the great man in 1954, Symon had proved himself not only a very good player but also a manager with the right pedigree for the job.’ Symon, it adds, was the first man to play both football and cricket for Scotland and would have had more soccer caps but for the fact of the Second World War. He was also to be the last of the old-school bosses; “after him came a new breed who would don tracksuits to join the players on the training pitch.” Under Symon, Rangers reached two European Cup Winners’ Cup finals, in 1961, when they lost to Fiorentina, and in 1967, when they were defeated by Bayern Munich. Domestically, he steered them to their second treble of League, Cup and League Cup Treble, in 1963-64, as well as the League and Cup doubles the previous season. In all, Symon saw his players win six league titles, five Scottish Cups and four League Cups. He is pictured here (right, bottom) in November 1957 with two other Rangers greats - Bob McPhail, who scored 230 league goals for the club, and Alan Morton. Symon was controversially dismissed, however, in 1967; in the words of the club website, it came after he rejected a move to make him general manager and let a younger man run team affairs. The younger man was his assistant, David White who suddenly found himself in charge after just five months at the club. Symon went on to serve as a director at Dumbarton before taking over as manager at Patrick Thistle. The picture (right, tóp) shows him in the dugout in his first game in charge, against Hibs, in September 1968 -Thistle won 2-1. Simon died in April 1985, aged 74. The Herald’s Ian Paul wrote that Symon had “tasted the glories of football as well as its depressions.” His death had occurred just a few months after he had become reconciled with Rangers: “Not surprisingly, his sacking caused great controversy, and it was only when Rangers played Moscow Dynamo this year that the rift was healed and Symon accepted an invitation to return to Ibrox.”
  18. Have we played Aribo, Arfield, Davis, Kamara and Jack before in a game? We knew that Ajer was out for them meaning that their poor left back would be playing. Piss poor team selection from the manager, we’re the home team far too defensive. Got abuse before on here for saying the Goldson always makes a mistake, and he did again today. Not many got pass marks though. Celtic played like Aberdeen and won, says it all.
