  1. Very generous to say Naismith looks decent imo. He is such a frustrating player and a very bland one at that. No pace, very little end product, and falls on his arse 5 or 6 times per game. I don't think it was total coincidence that our best football of the season came when he was injured and we started playing Beasley, Novo, or both.
  2. He put in a world class performance for Poland against Germany in the World Cup (a game they lost 1-0 to a last minute Oliver Neuville goal) but he was never 'world class' in general
  3. I'm surprised Boruc is still there tbh. Zaluska is a very capable goalkeeper and Boruc has been blatantly error-prone for 2 years solid (though not as much this season) not to mention looking pretty overweight. Maybe all the big money moves to Arsenal and Bayern Munich he was linked with for years were just a figment of the gutter press' imagination
  4. On the whole i don't think British players are very adaptable to new formations.
  5. It was ok in the Advocaat era when players were leaving after 3 seasons to join bigger clubs, Van Bronckhorst to Arsenal for £8 million for example. But our sheer desperation to sell Hutton after 6 months of good form was so galling and disappointing. I hope examples like that one are a thing of the past.
  6. I'd just be content with an owner who removed our 'selling club' reputation. I don't want a return to the days of £5 million transfer fees and £30,000 wages but i'd like to feel less terrified every time the transfer window rolls around lol. This is McGeady's 6th season as a first team regular at Celtic, if he played for Rangers he would've been sold after 3 at most. That's what really annoys me about the present (or are they now past?) regime
  7. It does emphasise our recent downsizing when the fans are content with big name players leaving in the hope of it financing new contracts for other players. Still, we have so many players out of contract at the end of next season (Alexander, Papac, Wilson, McCulloch, Thomson, Fleck, Miller), not to mention the ones we are currently negotiating with, that it is becoming a necessity to think that way
  8. I would call Pedro a lot of things, but "no nonsense midfielder" doesn't spring to mind lol
  9. I think 99% of the fans would love to see Fleck get a run in the side in his natural position but it just isn't possible when Miller is so vital to us when he's on form and frankly does not deserve to be dropped. I wish we could encorporate both without giving him the token left wing berth.
  10. I wouldn't say it's unthinkable that Brown could still end up at Rangers one day. If he moves to England and fails then there's only two realistic alternatives. Wouldn't that be a turn up for the books lol.
  11. I don't think Fleck was ever going to live up to the insane hype of 12 months ago. The Rooney comparisons were especially detrimental. It also doesn't help that his two best positions, second striker and central midfield, are both filled by players who on their day are simply undroppable (Miller and Davis/Mendes) meaning he always starts as a left winger where he consistently underperforms
  12. Quite shocked to hear that. He was awful last season but i rated him pretty highly the season before.
  13. I don't believe it was an "unacceptable" performance. There was very little quality but the players all gave their all, which is usually what is lacking when we play the likes of Hamilton. As others have said it could easily have been a 6-0 win on another night.
  14. I remember us beating Roma 4-1 in a friendly and everyone was raving about Mladenovic.
  15. Papac MoM for me Not going to rate the whole team but i will say i hope that this is the last we see of Fleck playing as a winger
  16. It's a joy to behold at times when the big man ventures forward! I never did quite understand all the stick he got for supposedly offering nothing as an attacking threat; he's certainly making a lot of people eat their words this season. Not exactly Hutton-esque just yet but Michael Ball certainly could've learnt a few things from the Papac
  17. Lafferty will probably make it but assuming he doesn't then the best we could come up with is probably: McGregor Broadfoot Weir Wilson Papac Whittaker Davis Thomson Smith Fleck McCulloch
  18. Right About (in my opinion): Kenny Miller - knew he'd be a good signing Steven Naismith - didn't rate him at the time, rate him even less so now David Weir - 3 years in a row i've said he'd prove he deserved a new contract whilst many folk were saying he was finished and would never last another season Jerome Rothen - didn't think he'd be suited to the SPL Wrong About (in my opinion): Kyle Lafferty - thought he was going to be a Cousin-esque forward who would have CB's in his back pocket Kevin Thomson - once thought he was so good he could probably walk into any midfield in Britain (including Man Utd and Chelsea) It now appears it was a purple patch from an average player, though hopefully i'll be wrong again Steven Davis - thought he was overrated and over-hyped, now i think he is the best player in the league by far
  19. Remember the interchanging and movement of Adam and Sionko in PLG's first game in charge at Fir Park? I was orgasmic after that game lol. Sadly considering Adam is not a winger and Sionko was slow and lazy it was never going to last
  20. 4-3-3 with Edu holding, Adam left of centre and Davis right of centre, 2 natural wingers, and a forward with the pace and power of Daniel Cousin would've been a lovely sight to behold Sadly in Scotland anything other than a rigid 4-4-2 or 4-5-1 is doomed to failure within 3 games
  21. Yes i did feel Mendes would've contributed a lot more if he'd had better players around him. We were playing with no wingers and Boyd's all round game was pretty shambolic last season (the improvement in that has been one of the biggest highlights this season for me) I don't think he had many players around him who he felt were on his wavelength.
  22. Not expecting a classic game or a classic performance but fancy us to win 3-0
  23. I had a lot of arguments with some of my mates last season over Mendes. They were lapping up the 'Personal Jesus' stuff and proclaiming him our best player since Ronald de Boer but i just wasn't convinced. His away form especially was pretty disappointing, and his partnership with Barry was one of the biggest letdowns in our recent history.
  24. Interesting. I rely on NewsNow for my updates as i don't post on any forums (until last night lol) so i'm sometimes a bit behind speed. Mendes will always have a special place in our fans hearts but i don't think he'll be particularly missed, at least not domestically.
  25. All seems quiet on the departures front. I'd be quite surprised if anyone left in all honesty, but i do think Mendes will go in the summer.
