Scottish Premier League meets to discuss reconstruction
Gribz replied to ian1964's topic in General Football Chat
Minimum 14 team league, but personally 16 would be better. Have the split after everyone has played each other twice, then play the teams in your half twice so everyone gets equal home and away games. Summer football. Move the league cup back to its original slot in the first few months of the season. Perhaps create a relegation from the bottom division to the regional leagues like the Conference in England. Gid rid of 3 governing bodies to run the game. 2 at most. Get some proper ex Pro's in to assist in decision making from Grass roots to National stadium (although it seems Joe Public has as good knowledge on changes compared to the clowns currently running it). As usual it needs 11 out of the 12 to change things and a few of them are likely to hold it back. They should have some balls and just go for change for once...if it doesnt work out then revert back to what it was and then then at least everyone can say we tried. -
No. I just think he is a total shit commentator. I dont see any reference to anything you have mentioned.

Ive said this since the day he started commentating on Scottish games around 12 years ago. But he is the 2nd worst commentator for after Paul dour Mitchell. If the fixture is Kilmarnock v Rangers he always refers to us as the old firm and vice versa with Celtic. Its always some babbling crap like "and these days give a lift in this stadium when the old firm come to town" I find his voice irritating and the pronouncation of players names wrong half the time - might be something to do with the accent. Ive nothing against English accents, I used to have a bit of one, but his isnt right for SPL games. Bring back Archie Ooomph McPherson. Not only is Ian Crocker annoying he usually has the biggest tit of a pundit next to him in Andy Walker or Davie Provan. Provan isnt bad when summerising the English games but as soon as he gets a Scottish game his bias opinions fly out of his mouth. I now opt to hear commentary in Arabic or Chinese when watching the games online.

Have no idea why the media are getting so excited about this topic like its the end of Man Utd. Beckham, Van Nistelrooy, Cantona etc have all left in the past and Man Utd kept going. My opinion is Man Utd have had the best of him anyway, I think he will be like Owen and have peaked earlier in his career and only go downhill from now. He isnt like Lampard or Ian Wright who get better as the years went on. Its like when Henry was leaving Arsenal everyone thought Arsenal wouldnt be the same, they got better footballing wise, just needed the top Pro's like Campbell, Henry and a keeper for a title. Man U should cash in on him now. If they could buy 1 from Sneider, Mueller, Robben, Kaka (possibly swap with Real?) or went for Van der Vaart or Ozil in the summer they would be flying right now. They are missing a class act in the midfield. They should sell Rooney, take the cash and a profit and say thanks very much then go try nick Torres from Liverpool who obviously wants to leave Anfield.

It doesnt matter, Id be very confident McGregor would save it anyway. A Rangers win with 10 men and McGregor saving a pen would be even sweeter. If that happens we'd just have to watch out for mhanks dropping from the top tier.
-
Wanker Ok then they have a few players from the World Cup holders.
-
Tough one. I know we are capable of getting draws in big matches at home. But if I had to say a score I'd have to say it would be our first defeat of the season. Rangers 0-2 Valencia. They really are a good side and there isnt much between them and the CL holders Barcelona.

Wouldnt have left Newcastle for Hibs myself. Did well with Forest and has been a decent No.2 at places.
-
It was waiting to happen. As soon as he signed those SPL players he was never going to get promotion. Whoever takes over has a massive job of getting rid of the dead wood and buying players who can mount a challenge. To think they were in the UEFA cup final a few years ago and have fallen since McLaren left.

The boy Maxi is absolutely shocking. Ive seen him do well for Argentina but everytime he has played for Liverpool he doesnt touch the ball. Cant work out why Babel doesnt get more games, he is quick and looks good for Holland. Agree with Metlika, Aqualiani is a player who would have probably came good for them.

Worst Liverpool team Ive seen. Poor individuals, no fight, no passion. Hodgson is a good manager but its a case of wrong club and wrong time for him. Alan Curbishley made a good point on TV yesterday, he said Hodgson hasnt had a chance to get his team on the training ground and put his methods across because they have been playing weekends and midweeks since he joined. But Hodgson doesnt have the fire and passion for Liverpool IMO. Martin O Neill would be the guy to lift Liverpool.
-
Cant wait until next week. Naismith, Miller, Weiss and Lafferty (who is finding form) can rip them apart.
-
Bastards. Andy Walker defines the word tosser.

I backed a draw. Still time for Utd to level
-
I was at that game in 1999 and still to this day say its the best side Ive seen with my eyes at an actual match, they were immense. We were a really good side then, we were unlucky not to beat bayern after being all over them for 90 mins then they nicked at 90th min equalizer and we strolled past PSV...not to mention Parma the previous season in the UEFA cup, but Valencia were a different class.

Well done old man. Cyber pint for you. Half the goalscorers right also

Lol, thats a bit nice....Love St it is! -
The finanical problems has probably gave the perception its a poor team in a poor era but when you look at the names its really not a bad team at all. Its more of a bad era for Scottish football and people assume we are bad. But the SPL has still had 2 teams in UEFA finals in the last 7 years!! If I was to compare it to a team Ive watched then Id compare it to the 92/93 side which had no individual superstars but were an amazing unit. The level/standard of player from 92/93 was better but there is similarities with hunger, desire and morale. I think WS has put together a really good team and with maybe 1 or 2 additions the squad would be very strong. However sometimes less is more and in our case Id say this is true at the moment. Breaking it down without going into the younger players like Hutton: We have as good a keeper as it gets in UK IMO. Centre halfs: Bougherra on his day strolls matches and comands the first 3rd of the pitch. Can also be a good attacking option. Weir is probably the last of the fine old Scottish centre halfs (Miller, McLeish, Hansen, Gough, Hendry...). Webster as he has played about 2 games for us, he has always looked a good player for others so time will tell. Full back: They arent near as strong as its been, we have had some top notch full backs in Stevens, Munro, Robertson, Numan and Hutton. Papac is a fine player and coming on very well with some good performances. Whittaker is a frustrating player at times. He can go on mazzy runs beating 4 players then fluffs his final pass, can be very erratic at times but when his final ball comes off is great. Broadfoot has improved and a bit of an unsung hero in games yet in the past he has been embarrassing and not managed to take a simple throw-in on a few occassions. He is the sort of player you'd associate with the 92/93 team for some reason. Midfield: The midfield is going to be tested over this season. McCulloch is either very good or very bad, at the moment he is good and a complete turnaround from last year. Edu brings a bit of drive to the team and has more to offer. Davis can be the leagues best player when he wants. When Fleck gets back to fitness it will offer a different dimension with an attacking midfielder behind the front 2. Wide roles - I felt we should have kept Novo in the summer but he isnt being missed at the moment. Naismith is like a new signing but has to go most of the season to show isnt not just a flash. Weiss looks like he has the ability to destroy defences. Upfront - Dont want to harp on about it (well I do actually ) I always felt taking the non-mobile Boyd out the team would open up our play and we'd a) play much better - and right now our counter attacking play is superb and b) score as much or more goals. Miller is a player Ive always rated and he is now adding goals to his game making him the main man at the moment. Such a pity for Jelavic, he looked like he was going to the quality signing we've needed for a while and he gets crocked, but he will be back. Lafferty - On last chance saloon IMO due to a silly attitude. But i still think he has something in his locker if played upfront. Hasnt really had a run of games through the middle. Beattie - Firstly needs to get fit and then we can see what he is all about. Picking the strongest XI from that puts together a good side and when playing as a unit its not any weaker than half the Premier League teams in England. But come the end of the season we'll know how good they are!

I rate McGregor that high that I think he could walk into Old Trafford and be their No.1 Danny mentions the Bremen save which was outstanding but the one at Parkhead was the tops for me. As mentioned he has a temper but most of our legends had that also, Goram was no stranger to a slap here and there. If he does move on then I hope he goes to a top 6 club rather than a Stoke or Bolton. I felt Gordon made the wrong move going to Sunderland when Villa wanted him.

2-0 the Gers for me. Bougherra and Miller. (not necessarily in that order)

McGregor, the BBC, SFA and the wider implications
Gribz replied to Norris Cole's topic in Rangers Chat
Couldnt agree more with naismith on this. He was Goram-esk at that time. Now he is found a great run of consistancy which shows his quality. Looking down the list of Premier League keepers McGregor would be up there around the top 6. As good as Arsenal are McGregor v Almunia is like Rooney v Kenny Deuchar. Easily worth 12 million IMO. -
Always wondered what the difference is between Rangers and Rangers XI (or any other club). See this in lots of friendlies. Is it just a 11 from any level at the club? anyone know?
-
I back both sides of the argument. On one hand it was a relevant question as quite clearly the change of tactics between 2 games had a difference. But on the other the media were having a dig even though the fans may have wanted this question asked, its like fuel to a fire and media would have been rubbing their hands. The media can be poison and Ive no problem if a manager wants to walk away from an interviewer - it actually makes for better viewing and at least there is no babbling small talk. But the national manager should be able to handle this types of situations....Im sure if he was asked a few days later when the dust settled then he would have given a different response. Alex Ferguson is a classic example for ignoring questions and he doesnt even talk to the BBC yet how successful is he?!! Levein couldnt lace SAF shoes so shouldnt have thrown the toys out the pram. It was just another example how Levein is out of his depth in this job.

Never say never. Considering we need 3 wins v Czech, Lithuania and Liechtenstein and maybe even a point in Spain then there would be no better man that WS to get us over the final hurdles. A master class away to Spain aka what we did at Old trafford! The biggest pressure is to get Scotland to a tournament again. Personally Im not sure WS would go for it, although he may feel he has a wee bit of unfinished business with the national team. But Id actually prefer him to sign on at Ibrox for another year.

I thought it was a soft pen due to him having his arms up, it was ball to arm but when they are high like that it is a pen. Although we've all seen John Terry pulling off saves of the season with no pens given so Refs are not consistant. McGregor was by far the best player in both games. As I said earlier, he kept both scorelines from being hidings. As for the next game being 11 months away this is a joke and why i think they should have 4 games in a 2 or 3 week period. But we do have the Celtic Nations Cup next summer which might be quite competitive.
