  1. While you would not want to get blind over at their board, one observer noted this little survey ... ... currently 75% are pro mentioning IRA in their songs. We do remember that we were done in Eindhoven for singing "against" the IRA. The Hooped Horrors seem to think that this is an entirely different matter. I call that Disfunctional Reality Perception.
  2. What is "a big club"? We are a club with a great history, tradition and are know in many a country that has any sort of football pedigree. But I would assume that these days, the consensus about "big" would only yield the names Manchester United, Barcelona, Real Madrid, Inter, Milan, and Bayern Munich. After that, there will be a considerable gap, ere the rich teams (i.e. those who spend sums beyodn belief and are thus in everyone's ear) would enter, e.g. Man City or Chelsea. After that, those teams of our category would join up alongside the likes of Ajax, Porto, Lyon, Lazio, Arsenal, Benfica ... you name them. That all said, there sure is a different level of interest to be gathered in countries with "closer" ties to Britain, whether by language or historically. Be that the US of A (these days Bedoya, Edu, Bocanegra), or India (with a sizeable community in Britain and interest from the other side of the globe). Maybe the Indian league and its players are still way below "standard" (though opinion about standards vary) and interest in football still marginal, getting a foot in this market simply by being present and possibly sending some ex-players as coaches will do no harm in the future. It is exactly what the Portuguese and Spanish did with South America (BTW, the French and Dutch too) decades ago ... and we all know the amount of talent they gather in now.
  3. Can't really see any great ground for argument here. Aberdeen, like many other Scottish clubs lacking money, used a young player "discarded" by Birmingham and put him straight into their first team, where he essentially played 3 fulls seasons in their first team (average 27 per season). What his agent and he argues is (not we, sic!) that while developement he sure made by gaining experience on the park, the "development" that is targetted by the compensation rule is for actually teaching him the knick-knacks of football in training and his youth. That was done by Birmingham, not Aberdeen. At least that is the tone which comes out of Aluko's camp.
  4. Matter of fact, from what is being written, he's impressed. What I think holds up any deal is Aberdeen's claim to receive money for him, since "they developed" him and he's still under 23. Would be somewhat strange, since he's been a freebie for a few months now.
  5. During the 1992/93 season, we recorded a 44-game (?) unbeaten run in all competitions, Europe included. Hope Ally can keep his troops up to this kind of professionalism for months to come.
  6. And it looks we're not just "targetting" the Indian market on the other side of the globe ... Gers back Indian Festival
  7. Ortiz? Decent enough for the SPL, but some people will never win fans over. That's one in seven signings he made then that you deem "not good enough". Would have to backtrack what you said about Goian or Bocanegra at the time. Anyway, today's supposedly judgement day for Aluko.
  8. Fair enough. Still, does anyone on here really think that McCoist, McDowell and Durrant would waste their time looking at duds? I would expect that only players whom they rate actually make it to Murray Park in the first place ... and other with these Indians or the Swede, they all have seen Aluko in action before.
  9. Of those you mention, Ortiz is the only "winger" with experience, but actually a right winger come full back. Same goes for Bedoya, who has played there for the US of A as well. Wylde is, as I said, rather one-dimensional thus far, McKay played as left winger, but is actually a creative centre-midfielder who can play on the left. As for opinions, here's one who has seen Aluko at close hand, and not just at Murray Park.
  10. First, he's one of the top performers (statwise) in Liverpool's midfield. Second, you weren't impressed with him at Blackpool? He played 34 games, scored 12 goals and had 9 assists ... for Blackpool. If you weren't impressed by that, I wonder what you make of him at the age of 18, when he was amongst our squad players. That was actually my point with regard to your opinion about Aluko "failing at Birmingham", a team he never played a real game for, most likely because of his age and a squad full of high-earners. It was not my intend to show you that Aluko is a decent player. Of course, him being selected as English u16 to u19 and as a full Nigerian international at the age of 20 should give you some ideas. Anyways, IMHO, we could do much worse than sign an experienced freebie at low wages till the end of the season as cover for Naismith. I for one would like to see some more competition to Wylde out there (McKay is IMHO a player that should be deployed nearer the centre of midfield), who is still quite one-dimensional.
  11. Near 100 SPL games under his belt, former England and now Nigerian international, and still only 22 years of age. Danny, he failed badly at Birmingham? He was there in his youth and had one season as a first teamer (no games), aged 18. Well, well ... Then again, some will say the same about folk like Charlie Adam.
  12. "They" referred to the press and media articles listed on NewsNow. I know what NewsNow is ;-), but it was late last night and I couldn't be asked to cited every paper or media source mentioned by that nexus.
  13. The headlines on NewsNow were to be expected. Doom, gloom and administration lingers ... even they must get tired of repeating this garbage. Especially when this was to be expected anyways. Of course, they also happily report on our transfer targets and trialists taken onboard ... you would think the editors of the respective articles never talk to one another ...
  14. Unless I am mistaken, this UEFA inquiry was actually initiated by Strathclyde Police? If that is the case, IMHO Glasgow's Finest had enough of the indecision presented by the Scottish government, SPL, SFA and whatnot. While the police could work with the UEFA decision about TBB and FTP, nothing of like "quality" can be said about what echoes round the Timdome. By getting UEFA into it, the police will hope for a definite answer, so they can actually point out which song or context is not allowed at footie grounds any longer - at least with regards to religion, politics and sectarianism.
  15. Does he need to sue the BBC anyways? Can't he just sue the producer (Daly?) and possibly the chap making these false/harmful statements (or again the producer if the latter ommitted material said chap added to his "criminal" comments)? I mean, by giving the programme a wrong title, they did indeed bring our name into disrepute too, did they not?
  16. Sue them for 5m, get 3m and pay of the minor HMRC case. The mhedia and BBC Scotland chaps will be fuming ...
  17. Next stop, Nepal ... or so thinks the Daily Record Aluko is the only player of the Dons besides Foster that I actually rate. While there might be a reason why he is without a club since the summer, as a freebie and for low wages sure a squad-player you may look at. Unless I am mistaken, he's a right winger, is he not? That would at last give us some (SPL) cover on that side ... even though Ally might have tried Bedoya there more often.
  18. The Scottish Sun
  19. Has been noted in an Indian paper as well (quoted on FF). India is ranked too low and Sunil's 3-year deal with QPR went out of the window because they could not get a work permit. Which is kind of strange, but who knows enough about red tape to clarify this. You would assume that before inviting them over for a trial we made sure that there actually is a chance signing them.
  20. ... went to Morton and is now a policeman.
  21. Maybe I'm mistaken and I sure don't want us to rip off the poorest folk, but methinks a lot of ManU fans do not live in the UK and each time I see a report on their world-wide fanbase, there is the Indian taxi driver amongst them. As for trialist, methinks we do indeed sign quite a number of trialists, but usually for the youths, u19s, u21s and reserves. I for one rather want Ally to check these guys first in person first and decide then, ere signing some unknown quantity after "recommendation" from some third party chap. Sound business as far as I am concerned.
  22. Sunil Chettri (27) ... " " ... according to Wikipedia, he averages with 1 goal every two games on all levels, 24 for India in 52 games. Jeje Lalpekhlua (20) has only played 23 senior games for his club, but scored 19 goals, as well as 5 goals in 8 games for India. ... and Indians bound for Ibrox from the club's homepage. Very reasonable stuff.
  23. A) This game was actually the reason* why Grant Adam withdrew (he did indeed, and was not dumped) from the Scots u21s, since he did not want to play agains The Rangers. B) For some reason STV deemed it more appropriate to tell some non-international-related facts about Wylde, rather than reveal the line-ups of both side, for example. *Nope, just pure guesswork
  24. On a sidenote, has there been any info on what he actually / really did?
  25. There was a distinct lack of fielding youngsters or fringe players for years. Usually, only in times of need did we throw on the likes of Wilson, Wylde, Ness and Hutton ... and noted that they can actually play some decent footie. Hence they retained their status. You would hope that Ally rotates the squad somewhat, especially against the lesser lights of the SPL, so that we have all first team squad members ready, should we need them. Obviously, at the same time, some of the stalwarts get a rest ... not because they need it physically, but from the hammer-throwing SPL opposition. Samples? McKay in for Davis (later to be subbed with Fleck), Kerkar in for Wylde, Bedoya on the right and subbed with Ortiz, Hemmings as sub for Jela or Lafferty from 60 mins onwards (or as soon as a game seems to be won). McMillan for Whittaker ... from the outside, it all looks so easy.
