  1. The rumour goes that Fleck and Ness are at roundabout 1,5k a week, while Wylde is at 850 pounds. Hence he's somewhat hesitant to sign a new deal at the same conditions. As for Fleck, the lad needs competitive games and experience. As long as Davis and Naismith are ahead of him in the creative and attacking midfield roles, he'll be restricted to cameo substitute roles. IMHO, a loan till January (to see whether he actually gets games with Blackpool) in the Championship would do well to get him into shape.
  2. Wonder whether we will still pursue Juhasz now ...
  3. ANd I have not seen anything about Verhoek joining Ajax anywhere but on various Rangers boards ... and from dubious sources. He will not have signed for anyone ahead of Den Haag's game tonight.
  4. Isn't that what the Scottish coaches preach and beat into their players? Style and techinque are not on a prime, it seems. And since the majority of managers in Scotland are of Scottish footballing pedigree, not much will change either. But then again, who could or can actually finance better football schools and trainers and coaches, given the lack of funding frankie bemoaned.
  5. I wouldn't go as far to say as saying he's not good enough for Rangers, but he's essentially wound himself down to "just another squad player". Now that he's got his contract, one might think that he can relax and look forward to some fine money-spinning years ahead. That would be a touch cynical. Yet, had he signed for Bursa and displayed the same form over there, he'd have some nasty people breathing down his neck. From his showings so far, he deserves to be "rested" and Broadfoot or Ortiz taking his place on the right hand side. Both have played there and shown a will to do well. Mind you, even Edu played better out there last night than Whittaker did over these last one-and-a-quarter games.
  6. One can forgive a defender a mistake in one game, even as costly as the game at Ibrox. He came out booming ahead of last night and woosh ... If people care to look, I suggested dropping him and play Broadfoot at right back. I hope Ally does now.
  7. BTW, a week ago Real Madrid played a pre-season friendly against Hertha Berlin (just promoted to the BL) over here. The Olympiastadion was sold out (nigh 75k), and thousands of Real-jersey-clad Germans invaded the place. That said ... Real or the like has not been hereabouts for decades ... and most likely won't be again for years to come. Thus, there should be no surprise if people stream into the place and want to watch the "glamour" team with all their stars once in their lifetime.
  8. Summer football? It is quite interesting that in one thread you denounce the Swedes and their ability, ignoring their vastly greater playing experience this season. While in the other you speak about us being better prepared if we would play summer football? The solution is pretty simple: UEFA should pair teams from leagues with summer football for these qualifiers, and teams who have just started pre-season. Even better, UEFA should just drop this Champions' League rubbish, use the co-efficient or even more better, the ranking of each relevant team in Europe, and start a real Europa League with 3 divisions, playing in midweek. As it is now, and it will be for years to come - UEFA uses the big and grand nations and their teams to get money ... and feed crumps tp the rest. And do not assume that the rest solely includes us and some no-hopers. We are in good company of about 70% of Europe's footballing nations. BTW, just in case you forgot, summer football is really fine. We would be prepared to each CL qualifying season ... up until November. Then we'd have a winter break and play bounce games to keep ourselves sharp for any CL or Europa League games (ask Trondheim et al how they do this.). Now imagine we manage it all the way to the final stages in May, when the league season in sunny Scotland would start anew. Playing football all year long, no breaks for the players. THAT will be fun ... for the first year and the fans ...
  9. This, with all due respect, is rubbish. Europe starts every season anew and we have every chance to get into the CL on a regular basis. Now check on those teams "our targets" chose and ask for their ambitions. Look at how many EPL teams have managed European Finals during this last decade! And then compare how much money they all had to spend during that time. If it were not for UEFA's favouritism towards the money spinning grand nations of European football, only a handful of German, English, French, Italian or Spanish teams would give you CL football. And they would not barter in the same market like we do. Europe is a bonus. Always has been, always will be. And there will always be times of exultation and times of dispair. But that happens to all teams who play this funny old game. Last night, we were e.g. in the good company of Dynamo Kiev and Panathinaikos Athens ... who are about our standing in the world of European football.
  10. Indeed! They rather sign for ... Blackburn, Cardiff, Mallorca and the like. IMHO, we'll use the Bougherra money to sign Juhasz. Davidson and either or both of the Murphys might join up too, for all of them will improve themselves in signing for Rangers. BTW, to some people, playing for this great club is a life's ambition, for they know it will hardly ever become better.
  11. Not sure about the McCulloch rating, he's usually a rather "invisible" man, but breaks opponents up and is a more steady person in the centre. Shifted to CD once Bougie was off, with Edu on his right hand side. Might be hold responsible for the goal, yet Jelavic was fouled during the build-up and it was a stunning strike, like the one at Ibrox. I do think that they won't score in 9 out of 10 attempts to equal that. Furthermore, McCulloch also stopped a dangerous run before the goal. So a 6 for me. All in all, very proud of the way we played (reds aside), guts, guile, and spirit aplenty. Jela, Naismith, Edu, Wallace, Ortiz and especially Davis did not deserve to be on a losing side.
  12. Obviously, nigh all people involved simply ignore that a great percentage of the songs are meant to be football banter. Thus they judge it utterly out of context ...
  13. ... and hence we can only sign him on loan again. If Arsene finally makes his mind up.
  14. IMHO it is a post-war West-Germany / Netherlands thing ... and very much related to football at that. Started roundabout the 1988 European Championships, if I remember correctly. (Not saying that some Dutch dislike the Germans because of WW II as well.)
  15. ... add Broadfoot (fit), Hutton, Ness (both ready to step up now), Fleck (one never knows), and two quality youngsters in Bendiksen and Hemmings. We've potentially lost just one player, Bougherra.
  16. Yeah, the very interesting debate about what "sectarianism" actually means. It would have been a good idea, if Ms. Findlay had given their explanation about this then, and why she would (if she does, that is) regard Rangers songs sectarian. And which songs in particular, of course. I mean, we hardly ever hear FTP and TBB these last dozen or so months at Rangers games - yet the less we hear them, the louder the "always offended" bark once someone does indeed dare to utter those vile words. Whether within a football ground or otherwise. Which brings me to the point: these songs of the hooped horrors, Ms. Findlay, how would you term them? "Whatever it is ... " is lacking intellect. Intentionally, I may add.
  17. We'll never know until he opens his heart in one of the rags after signing for Rovers. It could well be that other matters are involved here and some Tangerine "father figure" bade him to move out of Scotland or the like, mum told him so, or whatever. As I said before, all these contracts were and are signed by Goodwillie, so he sure is responsible for that.
  18. At the end of last week we apparently had money set aside for Goodwillie, Verhoek, and Juhasz. By the looks of it, we don't need the Goodwillie instant cash, we may not need the Verhoek instant cash, and we get 3m for Bougherra (I assume the Quatar folk pay up front). That should be enough to make Juhasz a formality.
  19. Remember that what you read in the press and related media does not equal what is actually being said and done. It looks all the way that Goodwillie has been patronized by the Dundee United hierarchy. They made him sign his extention, they did not allow him to speak with Rangers, and they essentially forced his hand in this deal ... while at the same time sending half a dozen of their better players packing at the end of last season free transfers. They wanted to squeeze as much money as possible out of this deal, and did not want that Goodwillie comes back to haunt them during the season. We simply did not bow to their silly demands and money-squeezing antics. Sure, McCoist apparently wanted the guy badly, but there's no need to bow to all their wishes at first glance. Goodwillie is no Naismith (2m) nor a Jelavic (4m).
  20. Because they want to be ¼ber-correct :-D ... and on a nitpicking sidenote, English, Dutch and German are actually all West Germanic dialects ... As for Ajax and this guy, remember that Austrian sources claimed that we have already signed this Nigerian defender from Salzburg on a free, weeks ago. No word on that either.
  21. Size 80 concrete boots maybe?
  22. If true, we never really had a chance. To sign for Ajax is essentially the same for a Dutch footballer as would be signing for Barca or Real for a Spaniard. Let's nail the Murphys down and snap the Hungarian up. BTW, if you take the Goodwillie and Verhoek money, we should still have enough cash to spend on a decent target or two.
  23. Those early 1990s "Rangers embroidered" blue ones were stunning. This, IMHO, is just another "off the rack" style thing, pretty similar to the second strip. I actually liked our 3rd strip of last season, i.e. the All Black - title winning one, so different to all this red, white, and blue that we had for decades. Which is not to say I do not like the colours, of course.
  24. Well, the assumption by UEFA and Co. is most likely that those "corporate" guests do not belong to the singing masses who usually attend football matches and cause bother. Obviously, it should be pointed out that UEFA's jurisdiction begins and ends at the stadium gates. So if Rangers supporters walk through the streets of Malm¶ and sing to their hearts' content - even the "banned" songs - there is nothing in this world to prevent them from their freedom of speech. Bar common sense, of course. Of course, it is very strange indeed that all sorts of people within Scotland think they have the "freedom of UEFA" when talking about "sectarianism" and "bigotry", or take these rulings into their own hands.
  25. You're in for a cracker?
