  1. As I said before, if people want to blame anyone, blame the lad himself. Fair enough if he wants to finance his old club. Not fair enough if he wants us to do this. Let's plungs some EPL riches into the SPL too, no need that we finance the league all day long. The one thing I do not understand his why we are still bidding. Then again, maybe Whyte quietly asked Thompson for a little poker game, so the Tangerines can squeeze more money out of the Rovers ...
  2. Even later is this from STV Fifth bid fails. Why can't he just sign and be done with it?
  3. Don't rely on the first rumour you hear. Hence my post above. I have learned a decade ago that whether pro or con, you should wait at least 24 hours or for an official statement of the club ere jumping about for joy or dispair. BTW, regarding transfer dealings, I posted this over at FF a few minutes ago: Ahem ... maybe you read the following carefully, start to think and then make your next posting. 1 - Wanting a player does not mean getting a player. 2 - Wanting a player is the first step in a long list. 3 - Does his old club want to sell? 4 - Sell for a reasonable fee? 5 - Does the player want to leave? (E.g. family, yes, they have somesuch ...) 6 - Does the player want to leave for Rangers? 7 - Does the player want to leave for the sunny SPL? 8 - Does he want a certain pay which we can afford? 9 - Are we able to do all this without bursting the budget? 10 - If all is a goer and another team from even the sunnier (ahem richer-rewarding) EPL happens by, will he chose them over us? 11 - Is there interest from better leagues? (Spain, Italy, Germany, you name it.) 12 - Who does the actual talking? (Agents, you know ...) 13 - And who exactly owns the players and wants a bite from the cherry? ... add to this at your pleasure. And then remind your self that Whyte does no transfer dealings, at least as far as I am aware. (BTW, thank you to all participants to getting this thread through the 300k post barrier! You're awesome! )
  4. IMHO, the press loves this new negative spin. Bougherra for the off. Goodwillie is Rovers, not Rangers bound. And now add to that the supposed cooled interest in Verhoek. Based on a week old news about Odonkor! When we have put in new bids for the Dutchman long after Odonkor was taken on? Odonkor, who is a right winger, while Verhoek plays on the left. Yes, I can see where these "news" are coming from. Just wait till Malm¶ manages the unthinkable. The press will have us "relegated" by the end of the week, due to loss of money and HMRC and whatever suits their fancy.
  5. Well, for some reason I do believe that the whole Goodwillie stuff was sort of a smokescreen to cover other dealings. Possibly somewhat naive, but still a gut feeling. That is not to say we aren't interested in getting Goodwillie too, since he sure is a good striker after all.
  6. That 4th bid for Goodwillie came after he talked to Blackburn?
  7. As long as Ally has a decent replacement up his sleeve, I am not really bothered. That said, I'd be satisfied if we get Verhoek, as Jelavic and Naismith look in the mood, and for some reason I think that we have adequate subs in Lafferty, Healy and Hemmings. Wouldn't mind Murphy though ...
  8. The Bougherra money (if that happens) will go as straight into the Hungarian's deal, who will most likely happen on that day as well. We can use money set aside for Goodwillie to get e.g. Murphy, or place it on the Verhoek deal. Seeing how Naismith and Jela click, and knowing that Lafferty and Healy are still there, I'd be satisfied with the Hungarian, Verhoek and maybe Odonkor - with "only" Bougherra leaving. Add Davidson for some more bite in midfield ... fine till January, when Bedoya arrives as well.
  9. I gather you have not been around during the mid-80s then? ... Patience is indeed a virtue and neither has the season really started, nor has the transfer window ended. Going by the press circus about Goodwillie, you'd think he's our make-or-break thing this season. Just wait till we've won a few games and the tune will suddenly change, not least by those press hacks who proclaim that Ally has a crisis at hand already. Some people's memory put even a goldfish to shame! Goodwillie ... I do believe that we want Verhoek more than we want Goodwillie. For we might easily snatch Jamie Murphy up for half his fee.
  10. David Goodwillie poised to join Blackburn for £2.8m ... United will bite their hands off, if true. All that remains is Goodwillie agreeing to this deal and that little saga was all for naught as well. Hopefully it was just another smokescreen as cover for a real target.
  11. (Sidenote, Gersnet seems to be a bit slow and prone to unwanted double-posts these days ...) 35m deal ... is that we pay or they pay?
  12. IMHO, we should just sign Jamie Murphy up. Loads of potential and with the service he'll get with us, he can hit the heights of a Goodwillie too. Half the baggage, half the fee. If only ... IF we are really interested that is ...
  13. Don't confuse me! Which Murphy do you refer too? I hazzard a guess: BTW, ...
  14. Ahem ... yes. You could not simply have waited a few days more, no? Was really desperate down there in Turkey, I gather?
  15. We have been linked to Jamie Murphy and today Rhys Murphy (Arsenal, on trial at Middlesbrough) too.
  16. And here's the link to that story - Rhys Murphy
  17. IMHO a "low wages and pay as you play" deal till January might be worth it, if Ally & Co. decide he's good enough.
  18. AFAIK, he has been fit for quite some time, but Betis chose not to use him. Can't say much about his current form and fitness levels. All in Ally's hands.
  19. A straight no for me. I would expect that the Swedes want to press as much money out of him as they can, since he'll leave in January anyway. Had he scored 15 goals or laid on 15 assists, they might have a point. We can get Murphy for some 900k and use him out wide if need be, Ortiz on the right flank.
  20. Ahem ... I for one can't see that much wrong in him these days. Gets up and down the park at good pace, scored against Hearts and was there on Tuesday too. Just a touch out of luck ... after half a handful of games. No concern whatsoever.
  21. You don't need to ask too loud here ... it might give others ideas.
  22. I wouldn't be surprised if any of the bottom 10 EPL teams happen by, slam a 3m bid in next week and sign him up, our advances all to no avail.
  23. As I said before, if Goodwillie does not want to come, we should use half of the money for him and sign Jamie Murphy instead. Decent enough player and not even half the baggage that comes with Goodwillie - as much as I like him.
  24. Now that you say it. Obviously, netting Verhoek and Goodwillie for Bougherra and 500k would be good business. You'd hope we shell out some more money for Bartley (loan fee 500k?) and that Hungarian. That should see us in good stead for the season, with low key folk like Davidson and Bedoya filling the ranks. Yeah, does sound good, if it happens.
  25. ... they are well advanced in their season (18 weeks in), have a settled, well drilled team, have drawn with league leaders Helsingborgs at the weekend ... while we had exactly one competitive game a few days ahead of this fixture. And, of course, football is a funny old game and errors like Whittaker's can hand a tie to anyone - no matter how good or bad he is. ICT stole a win at Ibrox the season before last without a single shot on target - bar that 93rd minute penalty. Motherwell and Hibs have come to Ibrox and run away with 3-0 wins. That, btw, is the same as ICT beating the hooped horrors at the tail end of last season, handing us the title. Funny old game ... BTW, give us 10 weeks of play and we sure have enough in the locker to beat the Swedes.
