Is Ally the Man for the job? - The McCoist Thread
Darthter replied to 54andcounting's topic in Rangers Chat
The team seem unable to build any kind of momentum or consistency. They had a good result last Sunday, getting their first away win....the team should have been looking to build on that milestone and move forward, but instead appeared to take 5 steps backwards. I am never one to put blame in the manager/coaching staff, but they have to take a massive whack of the blame. The team has no shape or balance. -
He's been injured. Don't think he returned to full training all that long ago....
-
Definitely agree with that.....

How??? Trackies are the most suitable attire for the task. Does wearing a suit make the team play any better??? Does it make the crowd sing louder??? Does it REALLY make others look at the club differently??? If wearing joggies etc makes Ally get the most out of his team, then bring it on!!!
-
The only REAL standard that folk should be focusing on is the playing standard....not what the Manager is wearing. In the grand scheme of things it matters not a jot what McCoist is wearing. Should he be wearing shirt/tie/blazer while taking training???
-
Really couldn't if he wore a lime green Mankini.....if he's getting the results on the pitch!!! Personally, I think the tracksuit is more fitting the job. Shirt/tie/blazer are for the board room, not for the touchline IMHO.

just waiting now on the...."since my last blog, I have now received a number of threats to my safety" line.
-
but....but.....but....we only have a few months of history & no trophies to display (unless you count the plaque from Forres Mechs...). Surely this can't be right??? Did anyone run this by Mr Lawwell before announcing it???

Just spotted the typo.... the 140,214, figure is for the 3 home games so far...... Amended orig. post...
-
According to the paper, after tomorow's game RFC will have had a higher attendance in 4 home games, than DIV3 has had in total over the last 2 seasons!!!! Div3 attendance for past 2 season: 168,961 RFC attendance for last 3 home games: 140,214 Not a bad stat...

....so did Mr Whyte before the sticky stuff hit the fan!!!

What expectations did you have in July before the season started?
Darthter replied to Zappa's topic in Rangers Chat
Promotion from Div3 at the very least. Decent cup runs Showing signs of a club re-born with regard to playing style & policies. So far, we're sitting in 3rd place, so point one is very achievable. we should however be sitting top with a few points gap... Still in 2 out of 3 cups No change on the playing style, but we are at least giving some youngsters a chance (albeit through necessity) I would be concerned for the future succes of the club if we were to scrape promotion... -
One player shouldn't be required to make a difference.... We need to build a TEAM, not just a group of players in the same strips.
-
I think in general our ball retention has been pretty good for 2/3 of the pitch. The players seem to move it around pretty decently until they get past the 1/2 way line, then its as if they panic. The are unable to create anything which troubles the opposition.

but the flip side of that is....He replaces McCoist, and team performance improves - share sales will increase.... -
What do folk see as the main problems with the team so far this season??? After Saturdays game, I think it is fairly clear that there is an inability to break down a defense. when we were on the attack, the Binos packed men back into the box, therefore making it very difficult to get the ball through to the goal - not only did they park their team bus, but they nicked the keys for ours and parked that too... I lost count of the number of blocked shots there were. We need to be able to draw the other team out of the box in order to create some space. Punting a high ball in just ain't gonna work when you have 3 guys surrounding out big players. How we go about doing this, I'm not sure. However one of our best "worked" goals this season came from a nice short corner. The opposition dispersed somewhat, leaving Jig (I think) with enough room to put the ball in the net. We need more creativity like that.....simply putting the ball into the middle of the box ain't gonna work for us. At the other end, we need to be careful with opposition set pieces. Again, they throw 7 or 8 bodies into the 6-yrd box crowd the keeper, then poke the ball over the line. From my recollection we have lost very few goals from open play. Again, I don't know how best to combat this tactic, but it's something that needs worked on. Tempo - We should have the ability & the fitness to maintain a higher tempo than we are doing. This would allow us to control the game more (IMHO). However at times we appear to be letting the opposition dictate things for periods of the match. We are also giving them far too long on the ball and space to pass & move - something which we are not being allowed to do. Some of my thoughts....whats everyone elses???

It's an excuse that has been touted by many inc. coaching staff since we started in Div3. The facts show there is no excuse there. As for all the other excuses ie. Team gelling, match practice, just out of admin, new setups etc.....these have all now faded. The team should be able to work together by now.
-
The width of the pitch is really pretty irrelevant considering that everything we did/tried on Saturday went straight down the middle - there was absolutely no width at all in the team. The Binos knew exactly how we were gonna play, and ensured adequate defensive cover in the required areas, which left no room for us to get a decent strike on goal.

What's the pitch size @ Ibrox??? Edit: Found it (SFL website Compared to for Stirling Albion... Same width, but slight difference in length

That old chestnut..... Whenever I hear other MD's/CEO's etc coming out with this about their manager, 9 times out of 10 the manager is gone shortly after. -
Folk are complaining about the way we are playing, and how it hasn't changed for several years.....yet they still cry for Walter to return. If Walter were to return would he not continue playing the same way as he did before (which so many complain about). Doesn't make a lot of sense to me.... As Pete says....we need a fresh path to follow. We need a manager/coach with a clear vision on attractive football & how to effectively implement it. We need someone to come in and shove an almighty rocket up each and every 1st team members jacksy's....maybe then, they will start to get the results that this great club deserves. Out of the 14 players from yesterday, the team contained 6 players with SPL & International experience, one with intermitent SPL experience, & some Champions League experience. Another 3 with regular 1st team experience in leagues better than SFL3, the other 4 being made up of some VERY promising youngsters. In total contributing to a wage bill of £6m....yet still can't beat the team sitting bottom of Scottish professional football. The longer the manager takes to identify the root of our problems, the shooglier his coat peg is getting. Its all very well the coaching staff & players coming out & saying that they need to do better, and how disappointed they all are.....but they need to go out on a Saturday afternoon and prove it. The players need to show that they have the desire to play for Rangers, and the coaching staff need to show that they have the knowledge to guide them properly - neither are happening at the moment. McCoist's status as a legend will never change, but it does risk being over shadowed by his apparent shortcomings as a manger.
-
It would have been good to still have him in the team.... Along with Aird & McKay it would have given us some fairly good & pacey options on the flanks.
-
Looks smart....
-
Folk also need to keep in mind that sometimes plans don't always end up as initially thought.... CG's would like to pull in £20m (or whatever)...but may only get £5m - does that then make him a liar???
-
so the "Android Arena" it is then....
