even if we sign the main players quoted we will still have around 6 brits in the starting 11 nevermind throughout the squad. Imagine how much the likes of Bates can learn from playing along side Alves in training and games.

looks like Benfica are about to break another transfer record by receiving the largest fee in history for a keeper. £35m. Signed for free when he was seventeen then he was released a few years later with them eventually buying him back for £475k. Thats what you call a good bit of business!!

Rangers are stepping up their bid to land Norwich star Graham Dorrans. The 30-year-old is leaving Carrow Road and Ibrox chiefs are working on a deal to sign the Scotland midfielder. Manager Pedro Caixinha has been back in his homeland for the past few days, but work has continued behind the scenes in Glasgow on securing the Portuguese boss’ targets. Dorrans remains high on Rangers’ transfer hitlist and Record Sport understands talks are still ongoing with a view to a summer switch. The playmaker would relish a return to his homeland and to join the club he supported as a kid after nine years south of the border with West Brom and the Canaries. Meanwhile, Mexican legend Luis Garcia reckons Caixinha is the perfect man to relaunch party-loving midfielder Carlos Pena’s career. The Leon midfielder is in negotiations with the Ibrox club to move to Scotland after a career laden with controversies. Pena has been forced to defend himself in Mexico over allegations he enjoys his social life outside football too much. But former Atletico Madrid star Garcia - who won 79 caps and featured in two World Cups for Mexico - believes a move to Scotland would be perfect for Pena. He said: “Carlos has the chance to move away from a Mexican environment that has polluted him, although much of the contamination was done by himself. “Not so long ago, he was the star man in Mexico. Everyone wanted to get their picture taken with him. “But no matter how foolishly he’s acted and how much his career has faded, he’s suddenly been given another chance by Pedro Caixinha. “Pedro is a cultured, innovative coach. He’s successful because he takes risks. He isn’t intimidated by the challenge of rehabilitating the career of Carlos Pena. “Despite his troubles, I firmly believe in Carlos. He is still a very good footballer who can control games. “He was at one time the best Mexican player out there. He’s shown it many times. He is a quality player. “He will be joining Rangers - a club that dominate games in Scotland where they and Celtic are the biggest clubs. That will suit him. “It would be a new start for him. I believe in him and so does Pedro Caixinha. “He’s been given another chance. Let’s hope he takes it in Scotland.”

Clubs always go to agents and connection throughout football to get CV's put forward for positions, then they collate those CV's with the winners going through to the interview stages. Why would GP risk the massive investment he has made by half arsing or circumventing the hiring process? Nobody wants this to be a success more so than those fans who have millions on the line,

not really. 4 out the top 5 sales are Portuguese. The Angolan is Portuguese he was born in Angola but moved to Portugal when he was very young. He holds dual citizenship and signed for benfica when he was 8 years old. The brazilain cost just under £4m when he was 20 and sold for £8mish The argentinian cost £7m when he was about 20 years old.

sorry my fault deleted a line I shouldn't have from my original post. Meant to say from his 7 weeks or so with us how he went about identifying the players to drop and who he utilised who did you think he got wrong? For me my faith (tho its still early) is based on his actions so far with us and the fact I dont have any real reason to doubt him.

nothing wrong with that mate it bored me all the way to the uefa cup final!
-
so you want a Scottish type game with Scottish players? or am i reading that worng?
-
depends if your holding it up against good diamonds. Whats good here might be mediocre in portugal etc. Plus with brexit the WP situation could swing in our favour or not of course. had a quick google of Portugal's WP criteria and seems the exact same as ours plus they must adhere to fifa and uefa criteria and cannot attract youth players from outside (think its) 60 miles from your stadium/academy until over a certain age the same as us.
-
why don't you trust the managers thoughts on players abilities? Who do you think he got wrong?

If we stick to only British players we can only buy the ones nobody in England wants as we cannot compete with even championship sides. The option is no longer there to do that. Its a very small market that leaves us in a very bad situation where we probably could only compete within Scotland. The national side cant compete so not sure why we would buck that trend with the same players To be honest I think most are missing the point of what the club are doing. The club is trying to introduce a European way of playing the game because without a doubt the Scottish way has died and we are miles behind most of Europe. So in the short term we are bringing in a European manager who understands periodisation the most succesful current way of playing. We are then in the short term bringing in players who have been immersed into this way of playing to bridge the gap. It takes literally 4-5 years for a player to learn what he should be doing when and where under very explicit sets of circumstances. We wont rely on european players as a business plan indefinitely just in the short term.

The system just basically helps identify problems. It can do things like measure a childs sleep patterns before a big game, letting you know is he tired are there problems at home etc etc Its all just about nipping things in the bud on one hand whilst in the other you are getting youth players used to living like athletes, thinking about food, sleep, muscle care things like that. I think we already use it to a degree, most training sessions i see we have the GPS system on. Data dependence is the same for me, its all just about sorting the data correctly so you can be more assured in your decisions and not dependant on a specific employee. With systems like this in place it doesnt hurt so much when a coach or such leaves, as the data remains. Not sure if Portugal's WP situation is much different than ours, naively i thought across europe it was basically the same with some minor tweaks.
-
think once a WP is granted its based on how many times they play here rather than for their country.

Its no problem , it wasnt meant as pedantic as it sounds! just seen it a lot lately and was wondering. A guy on ff refused point blank to accept it was NA but not being a member couldn't ask him why, was thinking i had missed something
-
on a side note- did the americas regionally change at some point? Only ask cause i see mexicans constantly being described as south american (not aimed at you Oleg_Mcnoleg). Have seen it across forums and threads, don't understand it. Is it just confusion from the fact its in the most southern part of North America? sorry for asking but couldnt see any info about why the confusion online other than it being obvious its a common question

great work guys, puts the rest of us to shame. Keep up the good work -
there is no doubt we must have cash flow issues, most teams do and our situation will exasperate the issue. I've heard the rumours about park etc coming from the chairman's dinner , cant comment personally on its authenticity as wasn't there or know any of the people who did attend. Certainly hope they aren't true as they don't make for good reading. They do however contradict the clubs actions so it strikes me as strange. Would have expected a larger ST price hike if the issue was causing great concern. Don't know who was at this dinner and who said what but its definitely not something to be ignored. On the other hand i wonder how DK gets any money out of SA that can be used within the club. If it was to come out that he had heavily invested then i would assume he would be in soapy bubbles back home, but i could be understanding the rules in SA wrongly

did we just get lucky ,date wise ,with reyna and beasley? cant really recall them being away much?
-
yeah think he was on the way back from a serious injury and had not been back long before coming to us then obviously he got another bad injury. Was just meaning in terms of having a player of his calibre available as imagined before the season started we might have swung a few of those draws our way
-
yeah that is a worry, think there are two weeks mid season they could miss if selected at a minimum This season its also a bigger worry as we start earlier than usual so would also miss most of july and june.
-
yes there was ,think it was four or five released and a couple brought into the youths. When i seen them i thought first team news would follow quickly after the last game.
