  1. As a manager in his own right he has taken charge of 50 games. What is it you think he has achieved to deserve an interview? By all means add him to a watchlist and monitor how he does over the following few years. That's sensible. To answer your question, though: No.
  2. I wasn't dismissing his early work at Sheffield Utd at all - I am actually a big fan of his tactical use of the overlapping centre-back in the back-three. However, IMO, a large part of his success was because he had a good group of players which propelled him up to the PL, but once those players fell out of the team or he didn't have them (i.e. Middlesborough and Watford) he hasn't had any success, or he hasn't been able to recreate it. Whether I'm being harsh or not, it's factually correct. I don't want Lampard and Jansen, either.
  3. It was, wasn't it? They were bottom of the table (after 28 games) when he was sacked. He had also fallen out with the club's hierarchy and some of the players, IIRC? That's not dismissing his excellent early work at Sheffield Utd.
  4. I ignored his record in the Conference, League Two and league One because it's irrelevant (in terms of level and it was around 10 years ago). His final season at Sheffield Utd was a shit-show. His season at Middlesborough was a shit-show. His season at Watford was a shit-show. I agree there are worse names out there, but Wilder should not be an option - IMO, of course.
  5. What's bollocks?
  6. Sky Sports are saying that Potter and Ryan Lowe (Preston NE) are not in the running.
  7. I don't want Lampard either - hence the shotgun comment! Wilder has only done it at Sheffield Utd. He has failed everywhere else. I suspect he just had a very good group at the blades, which got him a couple of promotions. I like what McKenna is doing. He's certainly one of the most promising coaches in Britain. I wouldn't mind Mosimane, but I think that's unlikely, unfortunately. I'd like Potter or Hasenhuttl. I think the former is a non-starter, though.
  8. I'd rather have Lampard than Wilder, but that would be swiftly followed by the insertion of a shotgun into my mouth.
  9. This would make me jump in the front seat of @CammyF's anti-board bandwagon. What's the f*cking point? Are they even trying to appoint someone competent?
  10. At least Hagi exists...
  11. There needs to be someone in place before the end of the international break.
  12. Yes, good names, but their success comes either in the Netherlands or Barcelona - which, thanks to Cruyff, is basically Dutch in terms of the players and set-up at their disposal. Koeman didn't win much outside the Netherlands. (He had Southampton doing well, but that was on the back of Pochettino's work, IMO.) Hiddink is a good manager, but again didn't actually win much outside the Netherlands.
  13. He's also Dutch, but that's a personal prejudice.
  14. Aris Limassol 0 - 1 Rangers FGS Tavernier
  15. Maybe in the past.
  16. It's not enough now. The game has moved on.
  17. Are you... feeling alright?
  18. For me, the only criteria is an ability to implement an effective style of play. That doesn't mean fancy - Conte's style is quite dull, but it's effective. (Not that I'm saying Conte is an option, either.) I would rule out anyone that hasn't done it at at least two/three clubs. Potter, Hasenhuttl, Knutsen (successful rebuilds rather than another club), Bielsa and even Marsch fit the bill, for me. I'm doubtful of Muscat just because he has only done it following Ange - can he implement that style himself, from scratch? I don't know. He failed in Belgium.
  19. What does everyone mean by 'experience'? Longevity in the game or trophies won.
  20. Scottish coaches are rubbish; all they know how to do is organise and defend. Football tactics have passed them by.
  21. This will be overshadowed somewhat, but... What are your thoughts, folks?
  22. Muscat just has success when he follows Ange. I have this sneaking suspicion that he won't be able to implement that style from scratch.
  23. Outside Cruyff - and maybe Van Gaal - I've always thought this.
