We need two for every position, so the only 'extras', I'd say, are Kelly and Arfield. It's mainly because a few players can play in a variety of positions: Roofe and Aribo in particular.

Good points. I can't get past this £14M hole, though... Also, I worry that we'll never cash in: 'We'll just keep our key players over the summer' 'We'll just keep them in January, there's only 6 months to the next main window' 'Maybe we should keep them again and go for the CL?' 'Ah, shit! They're now worthless!' For me, we should always be going for the League and CL, but I don't think cashing in on a key player now and again should necessarily prevent that, if we're reinvesting it prudently - which we've shown we can do. We need to get into the habit of selling, re-investing, and developing players.

I'm disappointed we've not sold anyone. I can't get passed the fact that we've got a £14M hole to plug this season, we have decent assets to sell, after developing them, and yet we keep retaining them without realising the value. I understand the CL is the holy grail, but if we're spending more and more to get it, is it worth it? I don't think selling an asset precludes us from achieving CL football. We should be selling our assets, using some to plug the financial holes, then re-investing it in new assets to start the process again.

Not many strikers, though. I wonder if Alegria could step up, if needed? Edit: Forgot about Sakala. Meh--we'll be fine.

It was supposedly from The Athletic, but I can't actually find a reference to it at all. Probably nonsense. I presumed McCann would be a replacement for a departure. I don't mind us snapping up talented young players, though; even if they do not get a game immediately.
