Rangers v Liverpool ticket information
calscot replied to Rangers Football Club's topic in Rangers Chat
I agree, basically the club need money – not for the owner’s pockets or to make a profit but to help the club come closer to break even. Income only really comes from the fans and it’s not just a begging bowl – you do get something for your money. You can pick and choose your games and decide if a friendly is too expensive to go to; however, with the amount of criticism aimed at the board for lack of spending and at Ally for the lack of European money, you'd think that excessive criticism would be balanced with a willingness to do the fan part and help the club out. I think it’s a bit off to complain about the lack of European games to go to and then plead poverty for what should be a glamorous friendly with a top English club. I have the handicap of living in England so can’t preach to people about going to games, but I think I’d be interested in going to this if I was near Glasgow. However, while the club struggle financially, I’m not going to preach to the board about spending more money or criticising them for trying to raise more money either. Like I say, people can choose to pick and choose what they spend their money on, but you should remember the board also have a duty to the finances of the club. -
Rangers v Liverpool ticket information

Trouble with this is that the economics don't always add up. Say the average ticket price now is £22, with say 30k turning up that brings in £660k. At £15, you would need 45k turning up to slightly beat that at £675k. So the question is, would lowering the price bring in another 15k of people - that's a 50% increase? I think when we were equivalent to a top English side, these friendlies were very popular as we loved to beat them and show we were the best British team who could win the English league - and we used to be confident of doing so. However, with the huge disparity in finances, we now see these games with great trepidation as we expect to be well beaten - and when we beat them, we think it's just because it's just a friendly and doesn't count for anything, which is a quite a negative attitude and means we just can't win. -
I think it's good to keep a record of these things as it gives allows us to consult a more accurate picture when the accusations come flying. The main thing to remember is to be as objective as possible if you want it to mean anything.

The other threat is a possible 10 point deduction...

After the international break we should have a full compliment of fit players to choose from, including Naismith... and I think we know what the team-sheet will likely be.

Look, if you can't even understand the implications of your OWN words and totally ignore the meaning of mine then there is no point talking to you. I don't want to sound like some grammar pedant, but the way you write is already incredibly hard to understand as your punctuation is pretty much absent. People don't seem to think it's important any more but it is if you want to be understood - and if you don't want to sound like school kid who should be held back. I have no idea what points you want answered - the only thing I engaged with you about was the "don't tell me what to do" attitude. You argue for it, then deny it, then argue for it again... Make up your mind. Perhaps if you stop flying off the handle and actually think about what you're supposed to be debating, we'd get somewhere. Nobody's perfect but you seem to think you should be excluded from any criticism. If you want to argue the semantics of your words, start writing in a way that is more understandable.

Seems to me that the BO need a designated video man who records everything, just in case. Every slight or major infringement by security needs to be reported to the police and Rangers along with the evidence and witness statements.

Here's what you said:

What I said was F#*k all to do with "No Surrender". It was paraphrasing from your previous post. I don't think NS is sectarian in the slightest, but to me THE biggest problem against turning the tide is the "I'll do what I want and to hell with you" attitude.
-
I think we're all agreed that the statement itself is very good and we all support it.
-
I think I'm going to have to spell this out. I empathise with your bad experiences, but they are irrelevant to what I'm saying. The point is that the fans groups want to say something that will CHANGE THE POLITICIAN'S MINDS. It seems your pretty explicit message that you want to send to them is, "I will do whatever I want. No-one tells me what to do." How that helps the cause is well beyond my understanding of people and politics. And yes, that message does sound like a petulant child to me, but I don't see how that's my problem...
-
You can say what you like and people will think of you as childish if they like. If you actually want to achieve something, sometimes it's usually better to show more maturity. Maturity is doing what's best for you and your cause, in preference to just doing what you want to do. You may or may not be right about the "No surrender" but I don't see your attitude as very mature.

You would hope that with far less games we might have a lot less injuries and a more settled side which could be a silver lining. It's a real shame about Naismith's ban as the first choice team had a great look about it and was performing really well. We did ok without him against Kilmarnock but I wish he was available for the Hibs game. Hibs are not doing so great this season so hopefully we can swat them aside and have Naismith fit and fresh to face what on paper will be tougher opposition - with St Mirren on form and traditionally hard away games against Hearts and Aberdeen coming up. I think if we can get this team playing as often as we can it will pay dividends in the league.
-
I can't see the SPL relegating us - the clubs need our money and the money we generate. A one team league is not going to be attractive to TV or sponsors.
-
Watching today's prices in the Premiership and I would say Naismith is now more around the £20M mark - especially when you consider some of his games in Europe: against Valencia for instance.
-
No, we've drawn two and lost three.
-
I get your point but to my way of thinking it seems a bit like saying, "There a lot more trains going through the station on Saturday, be careful to cross the to the other platform using the bridge rather than just cross the tracks as you could be hit by a train..." And just because other people get away with it doesn't change the risk. It seems like a no-brainer but some people just seem to have no brain... Basically, if some can't help but feel hatred towards the Pope bubbling through their system, they should at least be able to realise they should keep quiet about it - especially at Rangers games.
-
I completely agree with that aspect too.
-
I don't think people need to be careful, they just have start controlling whatever strange urge they have to shout, sing or chant those words. It really shouldn't be hard for any reasonable person...

I agree with Bluedell. The most obvious solution for Sky is not to offer a "discounted" rate to other EU countries. EU countries would have to pay the same as the UK which would probably make it prohibitively expensive for them and so they would probably decline. This would lose Sky money but not as much as lowering fees in the UK where the bulk of their income comes from. Unless for instance, Sky buy up say the Spanish rights, sell them for the same fee as in Britain, and so could offer the Premiership included in the deal with British viewers getting the Spanish games. Or companies could offer reciprocal arrangements as long as their tariff is of a similar figure. What it *could* mean is actually higher prices in the UK to make up for the shortfall but with a virtual blackout of Premiership football in the rest of Europe. English teams may also have reduced payments but not significantly so. It seems a no win situation for the Landlady in Portsmouth, if she wins, it could mean she will *only* be able to get the feeds from Sky for the usual exorbitant amount and people holidaying in Greece won't be able to watch the games unless a proprietor pays full UK price for a contract - or they use a Slingbox or similar or maybe take their Sky box and card with them... In the end, it could ironically mean Sky have even more of a stranglehold than before... -
I remember the storm when they broke hundreds of seats and SDM was going to refuse their away fans until it was paid for. Celtic of course refused, claiming the seats were substandard - but I think after our fans broke some of their seats, an arrangement was made.
-
Thing is, we're taking a punt on him so you'd expect a lowish wage offer to lower our risk exposure. The guy has no club and this is his chance to re-ignite his career. It's only a six month contract after all, and as I can't imagine it's exactly peanuts we're offering, it sounds like player greed has raised it's ugly head and it seems to me that he doesn't quite get his own situation or the value of his stock.

I wasted my first 2 years at Ibrox, I had to make up for that

i wasn't talking about me either... I just thought it was unfair on Johnny. I like to defend the innocent - like Sid the Snake.
