    Lafferty

Depends whether you objectively comment on what you see, or whether you have a biased agenda... If your opinion was reasonable and valid, then you could say it's probably time to give praise where it's due.
  2. The BBC will be reporting that it "could have been a Rangers fan" - although there is a small chance of that. But how about the Celtic fans bombing London and Dublin - surely all IRA members MUST be Celtic fans?
  3. PS We may have a war chest but although it sounds a lot, these days it's still incredibly modest and we have to be careful with it. I'd rather we prioritised the spending for positions that we really need, compared to one that's relatively ok. Ie needs over wants.
  4. I think we all do but we still have to be fiscally astute and Papac, for his standard will be cheaper than a replacement - and someone much better is still out of our price range, despite the takeover.
  5. Walter returning to Scotland would be a dream move. The one thing I really regretted about him coming to Rangers is that Scotland lost the best manager we have had since I've been old enough to watch it. We may have had managers with great ability like Stein and Ferguson but neither of them did much of note. Stein got us to the finals but it was a group we expected to top with the players we had at the time. Fergie was absolutely dire at the finals. Luckily at the time Eck too over and built on the standard we had achieved. Unluckily, he left also and we have been picking up the pieces ever since.
  6. Good news but hopefully he can be back to his previous consistency as he faded badly in the middle of the season which contributed to us losing crucial goals. He was also lacking a bit in Europe IIRC. He started and finished the season strongly though so not finished yet. I'm assuming he's probably on a similar deal to what he was before - with his age and our finances, I don't think he merits a pay rise considering he's already very well remunerated.
  7. I hope not. England might actually do something under a no-nonsense manager like Walter - he's just what they need and the last thing we want... I really don't want England to have a manager who is immune to all the hype and media crap, thank you very much. It's a handicap that stops them from being able to gloat for years on end.
  8. I hate the term "lost the league", it implies only that team was deserving but they threw it away. The defining stat for me was the dropping of only 2pts in the last 10 games - and that ended up the minimum requirement to win the league. That's an incredible achievement and showed us to be worthy winners. The defining moment was the third goal at Rugby Park. Less than 7 minutes gone and the league was ours. That was better than anything Carlsberg could do...
  9. What about Kerkar? Was I right in seeing him collect a medal and hold the trophy aloft after playing about 4 minutes of football in the season?
  10. It was never a penalty in the first place and so justice was done through a magnificent MacGregor. If they had scored you could say the defining moment was a shit refereeing decision possibly due to the pressure Celtic FC put on the officials all season.
  11. With his stock sky high again after winning 8 trophies including 3 titles in 4 years plus a UEFA cup final, not to mention the only team to stop Man U scoring at home all season in a creditable 1-0 aggregate loss in the CL, all while having little money to spend, Walter will no doubt be on the minds of a few Premiership chairmen in the close season. Do you think that he may feel he has a point to prove there after being totally undermined by the board at Everton leaving him with a less than salubrious record in England? Or how about a relegated team like West Ham who will have a parachute payment plus a big fan base, to help them to quickly bounce back up to the top flight? There are also bound to be quite a few managerial casualties in the EPL after about 10 games or so into the season. His words have been cryptic on the subject of his leaving Rangers and I've a feeling that's the options he'll be looking at.
  12. No trace of irony that Killie lay down but Celtic won by the same margin to pretty much a RESERVE Motherwell team. They rested their 5 best players for the final...
  13. You have to wonder what kind of debt Celtic are piling up as although they seem to have greater income streams, lower interest to pay and didn't have to pay off debt at about 12M a year, they have not been earning the CL money and have amassed a relatively large and expensive squad - with a higher wage structure than ours. It looks like while we have reduced our debt and had a new owner come in to almost clear it and pump some money in, while having a good opportunity for CL qualification, they will have rolled their debt back up without a forecast of enough income to pay it back. Their attendances are shrinking - and this season's loss will possibly hit that further, no chance of CL money and they have not much pedigree in Europe by their players or rookie manager to guarantee much from the Europa league. You also have to consider that they are no longer fiscally prudent and I'm sure Lennon, already used to spending, will want to augment his squad. Unless Diamond decides to put his short arm into his very deep pocket - he can afford it, they are going to end up in the position we have just vacated. In contrast we have been incredibly fiscally prudent - staying successful with cut after cut, but are now out of the woods with a net investment instead of huge debt repayments. Even if we just live within our income, we'll be far better off than for the last few years - especially if we can qualify for the CL. After this title and the manner of the winning, as well as the removal of SDM, and the hope a new owner brings, I would hope our attendances will rise back to the levels of a couple of years ago. That would remove the £2M odd financial advantage Celtic usually have over us in gate money and recreate that amazing atmosphere of close to 51,000 full house every second game. We just have to see what kind of a manager Ally turns out to be and if he's learned from the master along with some tricks of his own. His first job will be to scour the transfer market for quality players who are also good value, to build up what will be a skeleton squad to something more substantial. It's another new era for us that looks very bright, but we have to be wary about getting carried away especially when you look at how rare four titles in a row has been - and really, without the cheating, this should be a potential number five.
  14. In that context, the word is actually racist. It's ok if you use it to describe actual Huns - ie the people led by Attila... That's a very good point as how many songs do we have with "Hun" in the lyrics? None - which shows we don't find it acceptable. C&C.
  15. Lafferty hit form too and scored a lot of goals in the last 7 games. Edu also turned a huge corner and although is not spectacular, at least now looks like he could pass for a squad player rather than a squad player for Airdrie Utd. Wylde has also reasonably filled the problem gap at left midfield and with the return of Naismith and his form, basically we've gone from having a dodgy midfield to having a very good one topped with a potent strikeforce. Add in a reasonably consistent defence and a superb MacGregor and you've got a pretty good championship winning team... The fact we've been able to play that team without change for about 6 or 7 games has turned us into an excellent side who have swept the opposition aside with ease.
  16. Maybe we should just put Lafferty out on loan for the first half of the season then bring him back for the second... Thing is, I think he's benefiting from a good run of games up front alongside Jelavic. A settled midfield with Naismith back, young Wylde fitting in well and most importantly both Davis and Edu back to form. Especially the latter who has not looked a player at all until the last run of games. It shows you what a fit, settled side can do.
  17. As far as I can surmise from all we've heard, the debt apart from the 4M is effectively paid off. The transfer of debt to the parent company seems to be all about accountancy and avoiding a tax bill. I can't see how Whyte would get the club for £1 otherwise - where is the incentive for SDM? As I've said before, I believe the payment of debt and the investment to be the de facto purchase price but with the money ploughed back into the club instead of SDM's pocket. IF Whyte is as good as his word, then all will be fine bar a negative outcome in the HMRC case. The danger is that he's some kind of charlatan who takes us for a ride, but what are the odds of that? Only time will tell. We're not in a position to do much about something we don't even know will come to pass, so I think it's best to give him the benefit of the doubt for the moment and enjoy what should be a happy summer.

  20. Yeah, don't drink the inferior Irish whiskey, you're much better off with a good Scottish malt WHISKY. However, be careful of the plastic paddy whiskhey, it turns you into a raving, paranoid yahoo...
  21. It's called an "Eggcorn" which comes from a misunderstanding of "Acorn", and plenty are used on here all the time. Couple of common examples are: "Change of tact" which should be "change of tack" a sailing term. "On tender hooks" which should be "On tenterhooks" a stretching device. A squib is a very small firework like a banger which won't go off when damp...
  22. If we win the league and things go reasonably well in Europe, it will probably mean at least 12 European games. That's good for watching and slightly good for our team coef -> but bad for the team re number of games to play.
  23. I once made the mistake of going to the AWAY end for a Rangers match - I didn't realise they'd swapped them round as there were twice as many Rangers fans as Kilmarnock. Luckily I got there early and the steward realised and let me jump over the barrier to the pitch, walk past the segregation barrier and jump back in the home side.
  24. PS Rangers have the best ranking of any potential qualifier teams ie top seeds if we make it.
  25. Is that Gordon Strachan's next team?
