LEGGO - McBRIDE QC IRA BLAST HINTS AT PARKHEAD PANIC
ian1964 replied to ian1964's topic in Rangers Chat
To save clicking on the link here's what he said: Paul McBride has warned Celtic supporters that singing songs about h**s will no longer be acceptable. Supporters of Aberdeen, Dundee United and other clubs often refer to Rangers as h**s but according to the QC those days are almost over. New legislation going through the Scottish Parliament is geared at clamping down on offensive behaviour with a number of issues about to be highlighted and outlawed. McBride shot to fame in footballing circles when he took on the SFA as he defended Neil Lennon forcing outgoing President George Peat into a humiliating climbdown as an independent inquiry chaired by Lord Carloway described Peat’s role as ‘contrary to the principles of fair play’. Not long afterwards he found himself a target for extremists as he was sent a ‘viable device’ in the post at the same time as Neil Lennon. The new legislation won’t provide a list of banned songs and chants but McBride is in no doubt that any references to huns will no longer be tolerated. Speaking to the latest Celtic Underground podcast he explained: “All the talk in parliament about what is a reasonable person or what is offensive behaviour is all puff and smoke- we all know what is offensive. “I think that using the expression h** is now offensive. I don’t think that we’ll be seeing at Parkhead next season signs saying ‘No H**s in Europe’ or ‘H**s get out of here’. We have to accept that if we are going to have one side behaving in a certain way we have to make sure that our own side, the Celtic family, don’t act in an unacceptable way. “That’s not taking the fun out of the game, you’ll never take swearing out of football, you’ll probably get abuse and all the rest of it but we can’t have people throwing bananas on the pitch, we can’t have people abusing black players, we can’t have people being called h**s, we can’t have people being called orange b’s. “Those days have to go in the same way that we want the Rangers family not to sing The Famine Song, we don’t want them to sing ‘upto our knees in fenian blood’. “We have to look at our own side as well, we can still enjoy ourselves at Parkhead without singing about the IRA, without singing about h**s go home and without singing about orange b’s- I don’t think any of that behaviour is unacceptable and it has to apply across the board or we’ll never get rid of it. “When the term (h**) is used it’s designed to cause offence. You can have rivalry without being blatantly offensive.” McBride’s views are bound to spark plenty of controversy with the QC very clear in his views that any songs relating to the IRA must end despite the British Queen’s decision to lay a wreath at Dublin’s Garden of Remembrance during a visit to Ireland. He added: “99% of people at Parkhead will have nothing to fear, I don’t think that there is a particular problem at Parkhead in any event. I’m not happy with some parts of the crowd, a very small part, singing songs about the IRA. “We’ve got the Green Brigade, who I think are very entertaining, I think that they add something to Parkhead- sometimes the games are so dire they are the only thing entertaining as the bounce up and down and sing songs! “I’m not that happy about them singing about the IRA. Why are they singing about the IRA in the context of a football game? This culture has got to change, we can go along to games, yes we can shout abuse at the other side, yes we can have fun but there is a line over which we should not be crossing. I think that we all know where that line is.” -

CARLOS CUELLAR has only until close of play today to make up his mind on a return to Ibrox. Record Sport can reveal Rangers have made the Spaniard "an excellent offer" to become boss Ally McCoist's second summer signing. But McCoist won't wait any longer and is pressing Cuellar, who is believed to be in Spain, for his answer. rangers are still in the hunt for carlos cuellar Rangers and Aston Villa, who paid the Ibrox side £7.8m for the central defender in 2008, agreed a fee of £2m last week but the player has yet to make up his mind. He has been linked with La Liga sides Villarreal and Espanyol but the latter denied any interest yesterday. Ramon Planes, Espanyol's director of football, said: "There hasn't been an offer from Espanyol, although a proposal has been put to us by his representatives. "For us Cuellar is not an option. We are looking for a defensive midfield player." Cuellar, 29, is thought to be holding out for a sweetener from Villa because he will have to take a severe wage cut to rejoin Rangers even though they increased his terms in a final attempt to lure him back. McCoist has never hidden his admiration for the player but is not prepared to wait any longer for an answer. if Cuellar doesn't break his silence today, McCoist will move on. Having signed only Juanma Ortiz, he needs to get others in quickly. It seems Den Haag winger Wesley Verhoek will not be one of them, though. Reports surfaced in Holland yesterday that a £2million deal was imminent but senior Ibrox sources - who admit they have been monitoring the player - revealed they had decided against making an offer for the player. The 24-year-old is being chased by a host of Dutch clubs but is believed to want a switch to the UK - to a team in the Champions League. Rangers owner Craig Whyte is ready to sanction an extra £15million for wages and transfer fees but if McCoist wants new men in place for Rangers' Champions League third qualifier against Malmo or Torshavn it will have to be before Thursday evening. And because of injuries and suspensions McCoist is short of defenders for Rangers' opening SPL match against Hearts on Saturday. The Ibrox side have also been linked with a move for another former player, Kenny Miller, but they might have to beat Cardiff to the punch to land him. Rangers haven't made a move for Miller but last night it was believed Cardiff were considering a move for the striker, who has been ordered to train on his own at Bursaspor after telling the Turkish club he wants out. Rangers, who expect Steve Davis to sign a new deal today, were also linked with Spurs' Bongani Khumalo but it's believed McCoist has other targets in mind http://www.dailyrecord.co.uk/football/spl/rangers/2011/07/19/rangers-target-carlos-cuellar-told-to-make-his-mind-up-today-on-return-to-ibrox-86908-23281176/?utm_source=twitterfeed&utm_medium=twitter

By MARK WALKER KENNY MILLER can leave Bursaspor for £600,000 after his official transfer request was accepted. Rangers, who are keen to bring the Scotland striker back to Ibrox for a third spell at the club, will face stiff competition from other suitors, though, headed by Championship side Cardiff City, who have money to spend as they try again to win promotion to the Premier League. Miller has been pulled out of the Bursa pre-season training camp in Austria after a meeting with manager Ertugrul Saglam. The former Old Firm striker has failed to settle with his family in Turkey and wants a return to Britain. Bursaspor have reluctantly accepted his transfer request, but director Ilhan Uslu has warned that Miller will only leave on their terms. "He is under contract to us and no business will be done until is suits Bursaspor," Uslu said. Miller could get his wish to leave as early as this week. Bursa are in negotiations with AIK Stockholm for their Sierra Leone striker Ibrahim Teteh as Miller's direct replacement. If they can tie up a swift deal with the Swedes, the Scotland forward would return to Britain, as long as he can find a club prepared to stump up the transfer fee. Ally McCoist has expressed an interest in Miller but has also stressed that the Ibrox club would only do a deal, and offer wages, at a level they were comfortable with. http://www.scotsman.com/rangersfc/Turks-name-Kenny-Miller-price.6803777.jp

Wesley Verhoek http://www.vi.nl/Nieuws-item/203749/Glasgow-Rangers-mengt-zich-in-strijd-om-Verhoek.htm Rangers will shortly make an offer to Wesley Verhoek (24) ADO Den Haag. Scotland's top club, last season for the 54th time champion, searches specifically to strengthen the undermanned vanguard. right winger Verhoek was high on the list manager Ally McCoist assist. A departure of The Hague, which has a fixed season with a club option for another year end, hanging all summer in the air. ADO previously reached an agreement with FC Utrecht, but the player himself refrained from any transfer. Last week, Arizona is also in The Hague. The Alkmaar inquired about the asking price for Verhoek. "We took the sum indicated that FC Utrecht for him would pay a substantial sum, and about that they would consider themselves internally. Since then we have heard nothing ', says commissioner Mark van der Kallen. IT didn't feel good to talk, or write, about Scottish football last season because the game turned ugly. That's why my biggest wish for the championship that's about to begin this weekend is that sanity is restored to the game. And Neil Lennon and Ally McCoist have a heavy responsibility in that department because the Old Firm managers must set impeccable standards of behaviour. They're relatively new to management and the demands on them are incredibly high but they're experienced enough in the ways of the game to understand what I'm about to say. The pair of them have a duty to their clubs and their fans to make sure there's no repeat of the tangle that brought them together at Celtic Park and helped prompt a Scottish Parliamentary inquiry into a rivalry gone wrong. We've got to get back to talking about football and not fall-outs. The two of them were out of order when they let the tension of a Scottish Cup replay get the better of them and provided TV footage that was repeated over and over again because of its shocking content. They can't go there again. We want battles on the park and a realisation that managers can't get involved with each other. Concentrate on your own team and never mind looking at the other dug-out. Set an example for everyone's sake. I don't want to hear any more about referees, either, but I would like to be able to comment on improved standards from teams such as Hibs and Aberdeen who fell beneath the standards they expect of themselves last season. I was at Firhill on Saturday to see Celtic play Partick Thistle and was impressed by the size of the support that went to see what was basically the Hoops' Under-19 squad. These people have now got to be rewarded by the first team who threw away a league title last May. And that means starting with a win of any description at Easter Road next Sunday and following that up with home performances that are more convincing than they were last time out. Draws at home drained vital points from Celtic's championship challenge and their own ground has got to be made into a fortress. Three draws in a row against Inverness Caley Thistle, Dundee United and Kilmarnock were costly and so was the loss of the first Old Firm derby at Celtic Park. The need is to be more consistent because there's no doubt Celtic have a squad that's better than the one Rangers possess and one that's capable of winning the title. What they don't have, however, is Rangers' ability to dig in and grind out results. Ally has a side that had a better fighting mentality than Celtic last season, which is strange since Neil's as combative a character as you'll find in any dug-out. He was a battler as a player and so were his assistants, Johan Mjallby and Alan Thompson. Strength But on the night that Celtic lost to Caley Thistle, Rangers saw a lifeline and grabbed it with both hands to make it three in a row. My impression now is that Celtic have enough players to pick two first teams. Adam Matthews, Kelvin Wilson and Victor Wanyama won't be automatic choices but they help provide a greater strength in depth than Rangers have. Neil will be a better manager for everything he went through last season - and I'm not talking about bombs and bullets. He'll know he can run a football team and will be more comfortable in every aspect of the job now that the initial nerves have passed. But he won't want to lose another title. The eyes of the Celtic fans are now upon their team, and the eyes of the world are now staring at Scottish football. There can be no failure to respond. There must be better than has gone before. http://blogs.dailyrecord.co.uk/murdomacleod/2011/07/put-end-to-ugly-side-of-spl.html?utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=feed&utm_campaign=Feed%3A+TheDailyRecord%2FMurdoMacleod+%28The+Daily+Record+-+Murdo+Macleod%29

CL as well?.
-
A player coaching role would good for him and Rangers
-
Aye, he looked ok,looked like he was trying too hard though
-
What position was Tom Oakes playing?. I was impressed with the lad Burrows, especially if he is only 16,when he came on,deffo looks a player. The big lad Kamil Wiktorski was easily the stand out in the Rangers team, and as I said the LB Robbie McIntyre looked good without doing anything special.

Blackburn are facing a transfer crisis - with their Indian owners told to cut the club’s overdraft before they can buy. The devastating news comes after the chicken-farming Venky’s group planned to make a handful of signings and try to make their outfit into challengers for the Champions League. Venkys bought Rovers for around Ã?£25 million from the late Jack Walker’s trustees and agreed to take on the Ã?£18 million overdraft in the form of a mortgage. However the bank have now demanded that the figure is now reduced - with the cash from the sale of Phil Jones to Manchester United claimed and kept away from boss Steve Kean. It is a hammer blow for young chief Kean and the owners who have lined up players and missed them since the decision was taken a fortnight ago. Rovers wanted to break their transfer record and sign a striker like Mirco Vucinic, Papiss Cisse or Jermain Defoe for fees around or over Ã?£10million. But now they are looking for cheap deals, swaps or free agents. Kean also wanted to sign Belgian star Axel Witsel, but Rovers were outbid by Benfica. Moves for Monaco defender Cedric Mongongu, Portuguese winger Vieirinha and Paraguay striker Nelson Valdez are also in doubt. The Rovers boss may now have to sell again - on orders of the owners and the bank - with skipper Chris Samba a likely departure. Both Tottenham and Arsenal are poised if the price is right. And the decision has rocked the Venky’s chiefs. Instead of plans to put money in for signings, which they pledged to Kean and the fans, they are now having to look after the bank first in a crippling development. Jul 18 2011 Keith Jackson RANGERS are on the brink of walking away from their protracted attempts to sign David Goodwillie. Record Sport can reveal Ibrox boss Ally McCoist has become frustrated by the complexities surrounding any deal for the 22-year-old who is facing a possible court appearance on a rape charge. McCoist had been hoping the allegation would be dropped and Goodwillie cleared without the player being dragged into the dock. But the Tannadice striker is now bracing himself for a trial date later this year and has hired QC Paul McBride as his defence lawyer. Rangers will certainly not risk shelling out close to £2million for a player who could then be hammered with a prison sentence. They are also increasingly unlikely to offer United a lump sum up front, with the rest to follow depending on the outcome of the case. The growing belief within Ibrox last night was that any deal for the player would simply be too risky at this stage and that McCoist should concentrate on other targets, with a centre-half top priority. With skipper Davie Weir and Lee McCulloch suspended for Saturday's curtain-raiser against Hearts, McCoist is desperately short of options. Madjid Bougherra - who had expressed a desire to quit the club this summer - now looks sure to be denied a move and will see out the last 12 months of his current contract. And McCoist's attempts to sign long-term target Carlos Cuellar from Aston Villa are still ongoing after the two clubs agreed on a £2million fee. But La Liga outfits Espanyol and Villarreal are on Cuellar's case and McCoist was concerned yesterday that the defender may even have travelled to Spain for talks with either side over the weekend. http://www.dailyrecord.co.uk/2011/07/18/rangers-boss-ally-mccoist-prepares-to-walk-away-from-david-goodwillie-talks-86908-23278832/

CRAIG WHYTE expects Rangers manager Ally McCoist will secure at least TWO more players within the next 48 hours to beat Thursday's signing deadline for their Champions League qualifier against Malmo or Torshavn Rangers owner Craig Whyte has told fans that many more millions have been allocated to the transfer kitty to land priority targets in time for the European clashes. Agreement is expected today on another season long loan deal for Arsenal's Kyle Bartley to return to Rangers and a final decision is wanted over the future of former star defender Carlos Cuellar whose agent held talks with Spanish side Espanyol at the weekend raising fears he would prefer to go back home. Last night Whyte revealed that if all the offers tabled for new additions came to fruition the bill for getting their signatures and wages would total around £18m .... significantly more than the original £5m first season budget . The extra investment though is the least of his concerns as he is determined to retain the SPL Title for a fourth consecutive time and qualify automatically for next season's Champions League Group stages which could recoup that figure at a stroke. ¬ We are not panicking but we do want to get new players in this week ® Craig Whyte "We are not panicking but we do want to get new players in this week." he said " There are no guarantees when you go into the transfer market but the resources are in place to secure the players we want before the 21st of this month. "Ally and Gordon Smith are working very hard to close the deals . The next 48 hours are going to be important regarding a number of the targets we want to add to the squad and I would expect decisions on several of them by Monday night. "We are well down the line with several of them but if one or two fall by the wayside then we will move on to the next player Ally believes can strengthen the side .What we won't be doing is signing for the sake of making up the numbers. "We need to get the right people in and I'm sure that will happen." Whyte revealed however that some reports and rumours of possible purchases such as AC Milan's Rino Gattuso and Greek full back Georgios Tzavellas were wide of the mark . McCoist meanwhile is waiting for an answer from Arsene Wenger about Arsenal stopper Bartley. The club has refused to sell him outright to Rangers but hopes are high that another loan deal can be struck today. While a £2m fee with Aston Villa has been agreed for Cuellar who won't be fit until the middle of next month at the earliest , his £40,000 a week personal terms remain an issue and the interest of Espanyol and Villareal has muddied the waters further. "I've spoken to Carlos and he seems keen to come. It's up to us to thrash a deal out now. You'd have to ask Carlos if wages are going to be a problem. I can't answer that." said McCoist . The new boss is however thrilled to see skipper David Weir sign a new one-year deal at the weekend before the 4- 1 win over Linfield in Belfast and now hopes key midfielder Steven Davis, 26, will join the 41-year-old in agreeing an extension. He said: "Davie has signed. I thrust a pen in his hand and we're pleased that it's done. But getting Davis signed up is as important as anything." Weir said : "The manager was honest and told me that he was trying to get players in and that there would be competition, but I welcome that. "You want a challenge to keep you on your toes and make sure you are always striving to perform at your best. "Carlos would give that because he's top class. He was only up here for a season but everybody saw how good he was that year so we'd obviously love to have him back. "People know what we would be getting with Carlos, there is no real mystery to it and that is a big thing in favour of the move. It's definitely an area the manager is looking to add to and if we want players to improve the squad Carlos is certainly one that would fit that bill." http://www.express.co.uk/posts/view/259583/Craig-Whyte-digs-deep-and-predicts-signings-at-the-double-

THEY say time is money. Steve Davis just wishes Rangers weren't short of both in the not too distant past. The Northern Irish star saw Kris Boyd and Kenny Miller run their contracts down before quitting for bigger money. But Davis is convinced those days are a thing of the past. Craig Whyte's first major acts after buying out Sir David Murray have been securing the services of Steven Whittaker and Allan McGregor on long-term, big-money deals. Skipper Davie Weir has also signed on for another year, with top defensive target Carlos Cuellar being offered an Ibrox return. Next up is Davis. The playmaker is on the brink of putting pen to paper on a new Gers deal. He is just gutted Gers didn't have the time and money before to prevent some of the club's top stars walking away. He said: "I've really enjoyed my time here and as long as we continue to have success that will be the case. "I think the takeover was important. We saw people - guys like Kenny and Kris - running down their contracts over the last couple of years. "Had the takeover gone through earlier then chances are we wouldn't have lost them. "It's nice to see things have changed and the boys are committing themselves to the club. "My talks are still on-going. We're not a million miles away, it's just the final details that need sorted. I'm confident something will get done, so I'm not worrying about it. "The only thing I'm concentrating on right now is getting my fitness levels up." Davis looked sharp enough back in his homeland on Saturday as he helped Gers cruise to victory over Linfield to give Ally McCoist his first win as Rangers boss. New Spanish star Juan Manuel Ortiz opened the scoring in 21 minutes but Michael Carvel levelled five minutes later. The Ibrox side stepped up a gear after the break as Steven Naismith and Nikica Jelavic struck before young sub Kane Hemmings hit a late fourth to seal the win and send BOTH sets of fans away happy. Davis admits Gers are shaping up well as McCoist tries to bolster his squad for Saturday's big kick-off. Davis added: "We were a bit sloppy in the first half but in the second half we created chances and scored good goals. There were a lot of positives to take from it. "It's the shortest pre-season I've ever been involved in and it's only now we're starting to get that sharpness back. I think it'll take a couple of weeks before we're up to full speed. "It's a difficult time for the manager to get players in, with the early start to the season. "Deals usually get done late on in August but he is working as hard as he can to get the right people in and we're all confident he'll have done that by the start of the season. "The spine of the squad is there. We just need to add to it for a bit of depth." While he is happy to stay and help Gers' push for four in a row, Davis admits he still hankers for another crack at England's top flight. But Davis is well aware the grass is not always greener down south. He said: "I'd never rule England out. "It's great league to be involved in so maybe some day I'll get back down the road. But I enjoy my football here, that's my motivation. "I come in to my work happy every day and my family are settled here, which is a massive thing for me. "There's pressure every year not to rest on your laurels and to win the league. That expectation will always be there, but it probably helps me that I'm a Rangers fan. "The club means a lot to me and I would rather be here winning things and being involved in big European nights and great runs. "You could sign for any number of English teams and be involved in a relegation battle but at Rangers you get the chance to win things and fulfil ambitions. "Plenty have found that out - the number of people who leave Rangers then want to come back says a lot." RANGERS director of football Gordon Smith will today try to convince Carlos Cuellar to snub La Liga and return to Ibrox. Espanyol are also interested in the Spanish stopper who is quitting Aston Villa. Smith and chief operations officer Ali Russell will continue signing talks with Cuellar and his agent Pedro Bravo after a £2million fee was agreed with Villa. Gers no longer want Espanyol defender Raul Rodriguez and Smith said: "I've heard Espanyol are also interested in Carlos. It depends on whether the boy prefers to go back to Spain and play for them - or come back to Scotland and play for his old club. "I'm not certain about it yet. We've only just agreed a fee with Aston Villa. "It would be wrong to say we're poised to sign him. There is still a lot of work to be done. "But we're hoping that coming back to Rangers is where his ambition lies. "He enjoyed his football here while we can also offer him Champions League possibilities." Smith and Gers boss Ally McCoist fear being gazumped by the Spaniards over wages with the £45,000-a-week Cuellar facing a drop of at least £20,000 on that to play for the SPL champions again. McCoist, who saw veteran skipper Davie Weir sign a new one-year deal on Saturday, said: "A bid has been accepted so it's just a matter of thrashing out a deal with Carlos and his representatives. You would have to ask Carlos if the financial side is going to be a problem. "I'm hoping it's not too much of a problem, but I can't answer for him. "But I have spoken to him and he seems keen enough to come, which is encouraging to me." McCoist would also love to bring Kenny Miller back from Bursaspor. He added: "I spoke to Kenny's representative the other day about another matter. "I asked how Kenny was getting on and he said he didn't know because Bursaspor are moving the goalposts in terms of a move anywhere." Meanwhile, Arsenal stopper Kyle Bartley, could be back at Ibrox for a second loan spell within days. Bartley made a playing comeback last week after suffering medial ligament damage for Gers back in March. Bartley, 20, said: "I hope to know by the early part of this week what Arsene Wenger's feelings are. "I don't want to be fifth or sixth choice at Arsenal. I'd rather be playing more regularly and Rangers would be perfect." Read more: http://www.thescottishsun.co.uk/scotsol/homepage/sport/spl/3700379/Snub-La-Liga-for-us-Carlos.html#ixzz1SR3Vs8Dd

Nobody can say CW & Ally have not been trying to get players in. It is a difficult time to get players in,although we would all like to see them in. Just gonna have to be patient and have a bit of faith.
-
I'm not saying he hasn't had the odd bad game here and there, the same as any/every player, what I'm saying is it's his age or lack of pace or both that is quoted as a reason for a bad performance. Also he is looked up to and respected by all the Rangers players on & off the park which is a vital part in any team.
-
Are you happy Sir David of Weir has signed a 1 year contract extension?
ian1964 replied to Gazza_8's topic in Rangers Chat
Which is why we need to have a decent size squad and Weir is the best defender in the SPL. If he plays as back up then we have a quality player to bring in should we get a couple of injuries. -
It was the same at the start of last season,we all know what happened. I'm convinced we will get some more players in then we will have a stronger squad than we did at the start of last season.
