  5. Metro's Danny Griffiths unravels all of the latest transfer stories, rumours and gossip doing the rounds. Tottenham boss Harry Redknapp may offer Alan Hutton back to Glasgow Rangers in deal which would send Ibrox youngster Daniel Wilson to London as he clears the decks for a summer swoop for England international Glen Johnson. Spurs have an abundance of right-backs at White Hart Lane with the versatile Vedran Corluka the pick of the bunch. http://www.metro.co.uk/sport/football/article.html?Spurs_set_to_offload_Hutton_back_to_Rangers:_Transfer_Talk&in_article_id=592374&in_page_id=43

  9. No doubt it's a strange one,I suppose we will never know if he could have been a good player for us, although we do have young players coming through and TBH there is no point in dwelling on Gow
  10. Exclusive: Scotland hit by injury crisis as Barry Ferguson and Davie Weir join sick list Mar 24 2009 By Keith Jackson and David McCarthy GEORGE BURLEY'S big plan for Amsterdam was in tatters last night as Rangers stars Davie Weir and Barry Ferguson joined his list of crocks. Record Sport understands Ibrox centre half Weir is expected to limp out of the squad today along with Celtic defender Stephen McManus while Scotland skipper Ferguson is rated only 50-50 to make it. And that means Burley could be forced to pitch Christophe Berra or Darren Barr into the firing line against Holland. McManus was already a major doubt before the players gathered last night at Loch Lomond. But Weir dropped a bombshell on Burley's HQ when he checked in and immediately reported a knee injury to the medical staff while Ferguson is struggling badly with a chest injury. With Kirk Broadfoot also expected to be ruled out with damaged ligaments in his foot, Burley looks set to have to patch a back-line together in time to face one of the most potent and talented attacks in world football. And either Berra or Barr - with just four caps between them - could be asked to step into the breach and help Gary Caldwell shackle the likes of Klaas Jan Huntelaar, Dirk Kuyt and Robin van Persie. Burley might even be forced to scramble around for emergency cover today with Rangers' Steven Whittaker and Aberdeen's Scott Severin among the possible 11th-hour replacements ahead of Thursday's flight to Schipol. Derby's Kris Commons is another complaining of a knock but Rangers striker KennyMiller, who was left out of Saturday's 2-2 draw with Hearts, will be fit to face the Dutch despite a persistent hamstring problem. While Burley knew he'd be wrestling with defensive problems he believed his midfield of Ferguson, Celtic's Scott Brown and Manchester United's Darren Fletcher would give Scotland a chance of taking an invaluable point. But last night Ferguson's problem came to light. The 31-year-old injured the wall of his chest against Celtic two weeks ago but played through the pain and scored in the draw Hearts. Ferguson had hoped the knock would clear but he remains hampered byit and is by no means a certain starter for the Amsterdam ArenA.
  11. Dick Advocaat is ready to offer Rangers and Scotland captain Barry Ferguson an escape route out of Ibrox and a final career pay day in Russia. The Zenit St Petersburg boss, and former Rangers manager, has confirmed to Sportsmail he remains a huge admirer of the 31-year-old midfielder who will skipper George Burleyââ?¬â?¢s side in the World Cup double-header against Holland and Iceland. Advocaat, who gave Ferguson the Ibrox armband at the tender age of 22, is losing his star player, Ukrainian international Anatoliy Tymoschuk, to Bayern Munich on a free transfer in July, following Andrey Arshavinââ?¬â?¢s departure to Arsenal. And the former Holland boss, who tried to sign Ferguson during the midfielderââ?¬â?¢s turbulent run-in with the then Rangers manager Paul le Guen in January 2007, could look to him again as a replacement. With Ferguson facing a pay cut at the cash-strapped Ibrox club this summer, and already copping flak from disgruntled supporters, Advocaatââ?¬â?¢s words will not be easily dismissed. ââ?¬Ë?I am sure everyone in Scotland knows by now what I think of Barry Ferguson - heââ?¬â?¢s still a top player,ââ?¬â?¢ said Advocaat. ââ?¬Ë?Maybe he needs a fresh challenge elsewhere to give him new motivation. If he has been getting criticism in Scotland, then maybe he he has been at Rangers too long. ââ?¬Ë?If I think I have a place for him here at St Petersburg, then he is the first one I would try to sign.ââ?¬â?¢ Fergusonââ?¬â?¢s Ã?£25,000-per-week contract will have only 12 months to run when the SPL title race is concluded. It is expected he will be offered a significant pay cut by the club should he wish to sign an extension running into his mid-30s. Zenit could easily match his current wages and a couple of years in Russia would bank Ferguson at least Ã?£2million. He has already left Rangers once, when he moved to Blackburn Rovers, and, although he likes family life in Scotland, his career is becoming increasingly marred by personal criticism as Walter Smithââ?¬â?¢s side remain in Celticââ?¬â?¢s shadow. Advocaat added: ââ?¬Ë?We are losing Tymoschuk in a couple of months, when he signs for Bayern Munich. Iââ?¬â?¢ve brought in Russian international Igor Semshov to try to plug the gap. ââ?¬Ë?But if it does not work out well for him and for us, then Barry would be one I would think about, definitely. 'I have always believed he has the ability to play wherever he wants.ââ?¬â?¢ Zenit opened the new Russian League campaign with a draw, followed by a 2-1 victory over Saturn on Sunday. Advocaat, who coached Holland to their 6-0 Amsterdam success over Scotland in November 2003 in the Euro 2004 play-off, will watch this weekendââ?¬â?¢s showdown between his two favourite countries on TV - with Ferguson under particular scrutiny. Meanwhile, Rangers reserve Andrew Little has been called into the full Northern Ireland squad - before he has even kicked a ball for the Ibrox first team. The highly-rated 19-year-old , who can play in defence or attack, has been called up by manager Nigel Worthington for Northern Irelandââ?¬â?¢s World Cup double-header against Poland and Slovenia. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-1164299/Ill-sign-Barry-Advocaat-insists-8217-d-Rangers-skipper-Russia.html

  13. KYLE LAFFERTY will see a specialist tomorrow as he bids to save his season after he was stretchered off against Hearts on Saturday. The Rangers striker is expected to be out for a minimum of six weeks because of ankle ligament damage sustained in the first half of the 2-2 draw with the Jambos. Kyle LaffertyEight-goal hitman Lafferty - who withdrew from Northern Ireland's squad this morning - will have a scan as the club tries to find out the extent of the injury he has suffered. But even if it reveals no further complications, it looks as though it will be early May at least before he is back in a Light Blues shirt. That's a huge blow to manager Walter Smith as the towering forward had really started to make an impression in his side. Kirk Broadfoot, meanwhile, will report for Scotland duty tonight but it is unclear if he will be able to turn out against Holland in Amsterdam five days from now. As well as the foot injury which had him struggling to be fit for the League Cup final last Sunday, he has a calf knock which is causing him discomfort. Madjid Bougherra is also sidelined at present with the same problem but he remains hopeful of lining up for Algeria in Rwanda this coming weekend. He has gone back to his homeland for a scan and the results will determine whether he plays in the World Cup/African Cup of Nations qualifier.

  15. Was thinking the same myself, maybe with the international weekend Ibrox might get a decent crowd for this game
  16. by Darrell King IT is one of the most significant championships in history for a variety of reasons and comes with the quite critical guarantee of a £10million Champions League bounty for the victors. But, after yet more mishaps over the weekend, this appears to be the title that neither half of Glasgow wants to win. Events at Ibrox and Tannadice more or less encapsulated the entire SPL season, in terms of the major prize anyway, inside one 24-hour period. While Hearts deserved credit for their fightback to earn a 2-2 with Rangers, Dundee United emerged with plaudits for securing a similar scoreline against Celtic, and the 10 other clubs - overall - have done well to nudge away at the big-two, just what is going on with the Old Firm? advertisement It is as if neither wants to reach out and grasp the prize, and this really is making for a torrid time for those of us who are trying to comment on, and predict, which way this thing will cut next. Inside a few minutes of the boos descending as Rangers capitulated at Ibrox, there were two calls to the Radio Clyde phone-in from disgruntled punters. The first offered congratulations to Celtic on four-in-a-row, the second demanded the head of Walter Smith immediately; and so it went on, with the last calling for a boycott of season ticket renewals to force the issue. Torried times indeed for Smith who had a tone of despondency in his voice as he tried to explain how his side had managed to throw away a two-goal lead and victory from a game they were absolutely coasting. It was incredible. Seldom has the face of a game changed so dramatically - Hearts had been appalling in the first period, Rangers had played some nice stuff and the fans were enjoying the fare. By the end, there was rancour in the air, the cacophony of boos just managing to drown out the gnashing of teeth, slamming of seats and general fury. It did, on the face of it, appear to be one blunder too many for Smith and his players. By his own admission, the manager felt his team had been soft and lacked resilience or, if we step out of manager speak, they had bottled it. A recurring theme for those in blue this term. But we all jumped in too quickly. Again. Celtic failed to win on Tayside and, indeed, needed a superb late leveller from Lee Naylor to prevent a defeat which would have seen Rangers gain a point on them. The gap remains at three points with nine games to go and we now head into a two- week break to reflect. I tipped Celtic at the start and feel it's right to stick with my choice. Gordon Strachan's side, even though they aren't much better than their rivals, for me, have the edge. But look at the stats. In their last 10 SPL matches, Celtic have won just four times, taking 17 points from 30. Rangers? They are just marginally better, winning five and taking 18 points. Who can say with any authority what will happen? What you can say, guaranteed, is this title will be won by one of the poorest Old Firm teams ever, no matter which way it cuts. http://www.eveningtimes.co.uk/sport/display.var.2497294.0.0.php
  17. Nope, c'mon they were only calling WS a sad orange bastard
  18. The MOPES look to have the easier games !!! Rangers Falkirk (A) Saint Mirren (A) Motherwell (H) Hibs (A) Celtic Hamlton (H) Falkirk (H) Hearts(A) Aberdeen (H)
  19. RANGERS' under-19s returned to winning ways by beating Hearts 2-1 in a friendly at Murray Park this morning. With their scheduled SPL clash against Celtic postponed the club's young guns made the most of their run-out against the Jambos and put in a good display. Goals from Kane Hemmings and Jamie Ness secured the victory and coach Billy Kirkwood will be looking for his boys to maintain this form when they return to competitive action next weekend in the SFA Youth Cup. Rangers take on Inverness Caley Thistle at Ibrox Stadium on Saturday, March 28 (kick-off 2pm) and a win will take them through to their third final at Hampden on the bounce.
  20. That's the guy, cheers, as I said I thought he looked like a good prospect, a bit raw but he did show promise
  21. IMO, I don't think it is a good thing to play the likes of Fleck and then leave him out for a couple of games, he should be at least getting on the park even if it is the last 10-20 min just to let him know he is still involved, I know being on the bench can be seen as still involved but for me you have to keep giving him game time
  22. What happened to that young guy from Derby, I forget his name, but he looked quite promising
  23. He certainly did that in the first half on Saturday, we just need him to continue that for th rest of the season and for the whole game
  24. Now you're talking Cammy
  25. Nice to meet you as well Barry, sitting with TBO certainly is the place to watch the games with a guaranteed atmosphere
