  1. As an aside our Reserve team won 3-0 against Dunfermline this morning with Pedro Mendes making his return from injury. Rory Loy got the first and Andrew Shinnie (pen) got the second; not sure about the third yet.

  3. The directors of Rangers and guests took part in the traditional Loving Cup ceremony in the Blue Room ahead of last night's Cup tie with Hamilton. The Loving Cup was presented to Rangers by Stoke City in 1937 after they played in a match to raise funds for victims of The Holdhitch Colliery disaster. Only 30 Loving Cups were made to celebrate the coronation of King George VI and Queen Elizabeth (the late Queen Mother). The then Stoke City President, Sir Francis Joseph, requested that the vessel be used to drink to the health of the reigning monarch on the occasion of the first Rangers home match of each year. Every year since The Loving Cup is taken out of the Ibrox Trophy Room on the first home game of the New Year and the directors and guests of both clubs toast The Queen. John Greig conducted the ceremony and was first to toast Queen Elizabeth.
  4. Naismith is another player who has suffered from being moved around. When struggling financially it isn't a surprise that we sign players then tend to make square pegs fit into round holes. Naismith is, like Fleck, a good forward player adept at exploiting space and can score plenty of goals. However, I could probably count on one hand the amount of times he's played in such a role at Rangers. Add in his fitness problems then we have another £2million that arguably hasn't been invested properly.
  5. Agreed MoodyBlue. When commanding a midfield there are few better than Davis but he just doesn't do it often enough. Seems to lack self-belief I think but I guess is another who suffers from being moved around the side along with constant changes in personnel alongside and in front of him.
  6. I don't doubt it. Boruc is another player who has believed the hyperbole from the media in this country. Sure he's decent but in the last 2 years especially he's been no more than average and I can't see any team wanting to pay over the odds for what looks like a troubled fella.
  7. Davis goes missing for long spells - even in the middle - and I think his work-rate changes from game to game. Last night it looked to me like he was essentially played up front in the first half and he didn't do enough in that position. Earlier in the season he was also very poor in that regard which is disappointing as he is one of our best and most mobile players when interested.
  8. McGeady is a decent player no doubt about it and good wingers are a rare commodity in many leagues nowadays. However, the lad suffers from inconsistency, poor delivery, average finishing and a dreadful attitude off the pitch. As such the £8-14million talked about in the media is unrealistic IMO but with money burning a hole in the pocket of some EPL teams, Celtic may realise some of that if they do decide to sell in the summer. They've spent a fair amount of money this season on their new manager and new players. With no CL football this season and not looking certain for next season, there previous almost debt-free status must be closer to £10-12million now. No CL football next season would almost guarantee the sale of McGeady and Boruc.
  9. Thomson and Davis could feasibly play the withdrawn wider roles in a diamond with Edu or McCulloch playing the holding role. Unfortunately, I don't think Thomson or Davis have the work-rate or defensive traits to do this well enough - the former especially lacking in mobility. I think the team as a whole look better using an orthodox 4-4-2 with two wingers. This immediately puts weaker teams on the back-foot instead of sniffing uncertainty in our selection.
  10. Every club is a selling club nowadays unfortunately but I agree with need to improve the business to make it efficient enough that we don't need to sell important players unless absolutely necessary. As for Celtic not selling McGeady, that's a combination of regular European/CL participation as well as clubs not being seriously interested in a seriously inconsistent player. I believe he will move on this summer though - especially if Celtic don't secure the title as they'll then need the ~£5million to service their debt.
  11. Great post 26th...
  12. Winning the SPL and qualifying for the CL Group Stage once more would allow us a bit more flexibility in terms of new players I think. A new owner by then would also help but even if the debt is eradicated in any takeover; I can't see the new guy(s) wanting to make the same mistakes as their predecessor by spending upwards of £10million on players anytime soon.
  13. Indeed. An example of the 'trading' our new chairman mentioned at the club AGM last month...
  14. No doubt about it. To that end, Fleck himself should be happy with featuring as a deputy for the moment.
  15. Looking more and more likely by the day this transfer... Apparently a bounce game at Murray Park today for watching Lisbon representatives.
  16. Yeah, some folk have suggested that before and may not be beyond the realms of possibility. However, while I don't want to cut off my nose to spite my face, I'd contend someone who takes the coin over their career progression, isn't someone worth having. I'm not sure his form is good enough either but that could change in the future.
  17. Agreed. Certainly the worsening injury situation should ensure he plays his preferred his position over the next few weeks. Like Lafferty, this is his chance to perform and, for Fleck, his chance to show the money he's asking for would be well spent.
  18. I hear Brown has made it pretty clear he doesn't enjoy playing for Celtic. One young man who made the wrong decision in a car on the M8 a few years ago.
  19. Thought Papac did well in the first half but wasn't so effective after that. I worry about Fleck as I simply don't think he's as good as some make out. Sure he's better just off the main striker (as we seen against St Mirren in November) but I don't think he does enough when he doesn't have the ball and his decision-making is poor with it. However, he's still a young lad so I'm maybe being a bit harsh.
  20. http://www.soccerbase.com/results3.sd?gameid=440676 Think that's the game I remember but may have been another one as he started his career OK before falling out of the picture completely in early 2005 then going on loan.
  21. I reckon I'm somewhere in between on every player as I change my mind frequently depending on current performances... One mistake that stands out for me though was watching Mladenovic on one of his first games at Ibrox and thinking he looked a great player. Erm...
  22. The language from the fans afterwards is tremendous as well!
  23. For all us SPL fans who moan about the standard of refereeing, fast forward the video at the bottom of the page to 1:55 and watch the goal that is somehow not disallowed. http://www.stenhousemuirfc.com/fixtures/results/2009/140/cowdenbeath/#video
  24. Not a huge surprise...
  25. What amazing turn-around figures are these? How are you privvy to information which is hitherto private? Moreover, even if MIH show signs of slight recovery, why would Murray then suggest the club is no longer for sale when he's been actively trying to flog it for the best part of 4 years?
