I wish them well on their appointments. I must say, I am a tad disappointed though, I always envisaged a Board with more clout, politically and Businesswise, of course it may come. -

Who Is In The Frame To Manage/Coach Rangers FC?

One of King’s first tasks is to decide on the next Rangers manager — a decision that will rank among his most important. It was revealed former Rangers captain Davie Weir has emerged as a serious contender for a role in a new-look management team. The Ibrox legend has worked wonders as No 2 to Mark Warburton at Brentford and the duo are interesting the new regime. Kirk Broadfoot played beside Weir at Rangers and believes his old team-mate would be perfect for the job. The Rotherham stopper said: “I don’t think there is a better man out there than Davie Weir for Rangers to appoint. “Davie would definitely be a popular choice for the players and the fans. He knows the club inside out and I think appointing him would be ideal for Rangers. “He has all his badges and is a really forward-thinking coach. I know a lot of people who have worked under him as a coach. “Davie was unlucky at Sheffield United but he had them playing good stuff and Brentford have been flying since he went there. “He has the pedigree to do the Rangers job and he would also be able to handle the pressure. “You need that thick skin to do it and he would know exactly what to expect. The pressure could shock some managers coming in but Davie would take it in his stride. “He knows the club, he knows that there will be tough times but that wouldn’t faze him. “Davie would do things his own way but he can also call on the advice of some of the best managers in the game. “He’s worked under Walter Smith and David Moyes. I’m sure those two will always be on the end of a phone. “But his contacts are endless. He’ll know people across the British and European game and Davie would attract players to the club. “He has that aura and I’m 100 per cent certain that players would want to work under him.” King admits he wants a coach to develop players instead of a traditional manager — and Broadfoot believes Weir fits the bill. He said: “As a young guy, Davie was a dream to work with on a daily basis. He would always take time to speak to you and help you. “He had experience and led by example in every way possible — from preparation to performance and even recovery. “To be honest, you couldn’t fail to learn just by watching Davie. He conducted himself so well. “He was a mentor to me and a few of the boys and he was very approachable and easy to talk to.” http://www.cfclatest.com/2013/03/09/john-greig-my-prayers-have-been-answered/ -
JOHN GREIG is the Greatest Ever Ranger. He won 17 major honours as a player and four more as a manager during an association that spanned 50 years. The captain of the 1972 European Cup Winners’ Cup-winning team is immortalised outside Ibrox with a statue for his achievements at the club. But since the day he walked away in protest from the ill-fated Craig Whyte regime in October 2011, the Gers legend has felt like an OUTSIDER. As the club he loves lurched from crisis to crisis, Greig stayed away and feared for the future as much as any Rangers fan. Yet tomorrow night he will officially end his exile and stand beside Dave King for the Queen of the South match at Ibrox. Greig, 72, admits it will be an emotional moment as Rangers finally look to emerge from years of misery. He said: “It did hurt me to be away from the club. It hurt me to tender my resignation three-and-a-half years ago. Greig John Greig after winning European Cup Winners Cup “I’ve always watched developments in the background and hoped and prayed that one day things would turn. “Hopefully they have now with Dave and his fellow board members taking control. “I’ve been waiting three-and-a-half years for the right opportunity to go back. This is it. “Dave phoned me on Friday night after the EGM and very kindly invited me to the game. “I was delighted to accept his offer. “I know him and his colleagues on the board well. “Hopefully this is the start of a new era with Rangers-minded people running the club. “It’s the supporters I’ve felt sorry for. They have been treated disgracefully in the past few years. “But they are now seeing some light at the end of the tunnel.” Greig has been back at Ibrox just twice since he and fellow director John McClelland quit after being marginalised by Whyte. He attended a 140-year anniversary celebration in 2012 and was also present for the opening of the Sandy Jardine Stand last year. Apart from that, Greig has had nothing to do with the regime that was eventually ousted on Friday. King’s victory at the EGM signalled the start of a new era at Ibrox — but Greig does not expect things to change overnight. He predicts any journey back to the top of Scottish football for Rangers will be long and fraught with difficulty. But Greig has the utmost faith that club’s new custodians will succeed in their quest at Ibrox. He said: “I’m very hopeful that Dave and his fellow board members getting in will see the beginning of a brighter period in Rangers’ history. “Let’s face it, it couldn’t be much worse. “Everybody appreciates that the road will be long and a wee bit bumpy. “Football is like that in general anyway. There are always ups and downs for every club. But the supporters will understand that. “They can now trust the men at the helm and that can only be good for the club.” http://www.cfclatest.com/2013/03/09/john-greig-my-prayers-have-been-answered/

http://www.dailyrecord.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/felix-magath-jets-talks-dave-5296337#ICID=sharebar_twitter Felix Magath jets in for talks with Dave King as Rangers chiefs look to give promotion hopes a shot in the arm 06:58, 9 March 2015 By Keith Jackson MAGATH will sit down with King and Paul Murray for a wide-ranging discussion on the best way forward for Gers but his arrival last night is not an indication he is in line for Kenny McDowall's job. FORMER Fulham boss Felix Magath arrived in Glasgow last night to hold talks with Dave King’s Rangers regime. The 61-year-old German muscled his way into the Ibrox saga at the start of the year when he snapped up one per cent of the club’s shares. Now he has returned to Scotland to open talks with King. It’s anticipated Magath will sit down with King and interim chairman Paul Murray for a wide - ranging discussion on the best way forward for Rangers now the new board has taken control. King and Murray are weighing up a number of possible options as they consider how to rekindle their club’s hopes of winning promotion to the SPFL Premiership. With Hearts romping towards the title and Hibs now in second place, Rangers are facing a battle to make it up through the end-of-season play-offs and the new hierarchy want to give the campaign a shot in the arm. But Magath’s sudden arrival on the scene is not an indication that he is in line for Kenny McDowall’s job. An insider told Record Sport last night: “It will be beneficial for King and Murray to hear what he has to say. “Magath is also a significant shareholder. King and his board are mulling over all manner of different options. “Magath is one of many people with whom they will want to have a conversation. But he has not flown in expecting to be unveiled as the next Rangers manager.” -

I would take Smith till the end of the season. A new Manager/ Coach for the long term should be done with a lot of thought and discussion. -

http://www.eveningtimes.co.uk/mobile/rangers/king-targets-reclaiming-rangers-assets-after-seizing-power-at-ibrox-199520n.120113068 DAVE King has revealed Rangers can pay back the £5 million loan to Sports Direct straight away - and reclaim all of the Ibrox club's major assets. And he is confident the controversial contracts with Mike Ashley's sports goods company won't prevent the Glasgow club rebuilding for the future. Newcastle United owner Ashley was given security over Murray Park, Edmiston House and the Albion Car Park in return for an injection of cash in January. However, King, who gained control at his boyhood heroes at an EGM yesterday morning, expects to repay that money to the enigmatic billionaire immediately The major shareholder said: "If we look at the contracts he's got in place and they allow him to call up the loan immediately it is a priority. "Then it's something that has to be faced immediately. We're kind of expecting that in a way. But the funds are there to pay him. "But until we look at the contracts and see them ourselves we're not sure what rights he's got." King doesn't believe the second Sports Direct loan will be drawn down and predicted he can work with Cockney businessman Ashley going forward. He also expressed hope Gers fans will start buying official merchandise once they reveal the terms of the deals. There has been speculation that Rangers only receive 75p of every £10 spent at club shops under a deal agreed by former chief executive Charles Green. He said: "One doesn't expect to find it an impossible mess. The club has been in such a difficult situation, you can't imagine there are a lot of creditors have loaned money and not been paid. "I would imagine there may be opportunities there but I'm not expecting anything dramatic other than what we know. It's financially challenged, but I think the club is far from being in a crisis." King added: "I've heard from one person who has seen some of the contracts and I regard as being fairly reliable. He has told me we won't find anything untoward when we look at the Mike Ashley contracts. "He said the best we'll find is someone who is commercially aggressive and has out-negotiated the people who were on the board. If that's the case then good luck to him. "Others have said it's not that simple and we'll find that. If that's the case then we'd have to look at that very carefully. "But if Mike Ashley is going to continue his relationship with the club and we assume his contracts are robust and we have to live with them and come to the conclusion they're fairly balanced to the club and we let the fans know that then they can resume spending. "One of the reasons the fans aren't spending on the kit is because they think a disproportionate amount is going to Mike Ashley. So it's in his interests and he knows as we sit here today what we're going to find when we get there. "If he's confident there's nothing untoward then it's better for him for us to go to the fans and say: 'Listen, we've seen the contracts, we've heard all the noise leve,l but we can live with them'. "That's good for Mike Ashley and we'll tell the fans to buy the kit again because enough of the money is coming back to the club." King has decided not to take up a place on the Rangers board until he has proved to the AIM Stock Exchange and the SFA he is a fit and proper person. The Castlemilk-raised South Africa-based financier was convicted of 41 tax offences in his adopted homeland back in 2013 and had to pay authorities £40 million. But the former director, who ploughed £20 million of his personal fortune into his boyhood heroes during Sir David Murray's time in charge, is comfortable he will be cleared to be chairman. King said: "I wouldn't have started this process if I didn't think I was fit and proper. I've had no discussions with Nomads or other regulators that suggests there are concerns. "The only concerns that were aired came from the other side who felt the need to flag this. It was a mechanism to deflect away from their own failings." King believes the current absence of a nominated financial advisor - WH Ireland stood down on Monday when it became clear the board would be voted out at the EGM - is irrelevant. He said: "The Nomad is not an issue. Whether Rangers is listed is not an issue. The listing is irrelevant. "It is something that affects a specific group of investors - of which there is very few right now. "You have really only got River and Mercantile who as a London-based institution can't invest in unlisted companies. "But most of the other shareholders would be as happy to be in the club whether it is listed or not. "So the listing to me was just noise level from the other side given they didn't have much in the way of real argument." King believes it would be "challenging" for Rangers football board chairman Sandy Easdale to have a role in the future running of the Ibrox club. But he would be happy for the Greenock-based bus magnate, his brother James, who stood down as a director last week, and Ashley to invest in the second tier club at a future share issue. He said: "If we have a rights issue then I'd be quite happy if the Easdales put money in - the more people who invest the better. I suspect they won't and the burden will fall on people like us, but I'd rather spread the burden."

I still think someone will come in to help Kenny. He wants out and this Board must take some of the burden of him.
