Our magnificent fans and the BBC

Recommended Posts

Firstly I'd like to congratulate every Rangers fan at Ibrox today for not playing into our enemies hands.

Despite going 2-0 down, despite some provocation from the away support and despite there still being a lack of clarity with respect to some songs, our fans handled themselves impeccably.

Afterwards, while driving home, I knew it wouldn't take long for the lies and misinformation to begin. Despite the SFA/SPL advisor being delighted, despite the Match Commander being delighted and despite our chairman being delighted Jim Traynor was allowed to try his utmost to change the neutral's mind.

His agenda was clear from the outset as he admitted attending the game only to listen to our fans for sectarianism. Eventually, his female accomplice read out an email (30mins later) regarding this incredible comment and he struggled to answer and stuttered on about who the emailer was. No answer was forthcoming. Neither were any Rangers fans wanting to talk about the issue allowed on in the first hour of this programme.

I'm sorry m8, but this is just incorrect. Yes, he did say he went to the game and listened out for sectarian chants, but he asserted he heard none. There was also a Rangers fan on there (who was on in the first half an hour, I know because I listened to the lot) who said he *did* hear Hello Hello on the radio, and Traynor disputed this. Strongly.

For those who weren't at the game and those, like honest Jim, tuning in only to help UEFA enforce their new directive, Derry's Walls, The Sash and Rule Britannia were all sung. All 3 are good, honest folk songs and while they might not be immediately associated with football, they are songs we should be able to sing proudly without being branded sectarian.

Jim Traynor and his ilk can try all they want to decry us at every opportunity. Thankfully at last the club offered some back up. Now this may be too little too late for some and I appreciate that but I sense a change in the attitude somewhat. It may be slight but it's a start.

Traynor did not propagate any negativity around Rangers; this game WAS a massive test for those who want to hurt our club by being bigoted, and the attention of the media and Uefa was definitely on the game. I see nothing wrong with members of the media paying special attention to see if our fans behave themselves. That is, after all, part of their job.

Together by continuing to adhere to the directive and continuing to sing our athems like the above we can show the trouble-makers (and downright malicious liars) like Traynor and his friends we won't go quietly into the night.

We had a poor result today but there were many positives to take on and off the pitch. I'm as proud as ever to be a bear. The quicker Traynor and muck liek him realise that pride and loyalty will never disappear the better.

I don't much care for Traynor - he's a tabloid tittle merchant who writes garbage in his scummy newspaper - but I saw no gripe with him on this issue.

Sorry Danny I think you miss my point.

What Traynor did was allow (for the first hour I listened anyway) Derry's Walls to be considered sectarian. He did initially say he didn't hear anything offensive at all then he said he never heard anything sectarian before he left. A subtle difference but an important one which leaves the issue open to debate. Especially when you consider the amount of emails and calls read out saying Derry's Walls was sectarian without reply from Traynor arguing otherwise. He knows there is nothing wrong with the words 'No Surrender' but not once did he say so when I listened.

I can't remember the first Rangers caller mentioning Hello Hello? He said he didn't want to talk about sectarianism and then rambled on about how Ricksen should be captain. I don't know of any Rangers fan who would want that. Suspicious eh and totally irrelevant to the initial part of the programme.

You are an intelligent guy Danny and I certainly don't see myself as someone who over-reacts to media stuff unlike many other fans. However, this show had a remit from the outset. Traynor allowed the notion of sectarian singing happening to an extent and wouldn't allow any Rangers fans on (for at least one hour) to take issue with that.

I'll concede that he did mention the delegate being happy and allowed McIntrye on. However it wasn't until the very end of the programme where the listening figures would be minimal he allowed a lady on to correctly argue that Derry's Walls was simply a harmless folk song. By then the damage was done as the listening neutral would again think we were singing sectarian songs.

That's why I think the show was damaging and unfair towards us once more. Going by the lack of Radio Scotland coverage towards the songs sung at the game yesterday that backs up my claim somewhat.

hear hear Frankie. I was pleased no sectarian songs were sung by the rangers fans today.

I was listening into Real Radio on the way home from the game today and the first caller on it was a tim saying we were giulty of singing sectarian songs. Altho another one came on and praised the rangers fans for there behavoiur at the game today.

So i guess we are still going to have some of them trying to bring the good name of the fans into distripute.

But i was proud of the fans today for not singing the songs we have been told not to sing

heard this as well and they said they were listning to it on the radio

i think it was some scum trying to fuck things up

I listened to Clyde 1 on the way home from the football on Saturday and while Spew Keevins said the Rangers fans acted well today he still heard one song he didn't want to hear.

I'm STILL trying to remember what that song was but I think he's just talking shit.

Gazza, what Keevins, Traynor, Speirs etc need to understand is that it doesn't matter what he wants to, or doesn't want to hear, but what UEFA deem as inappropriate. As it stands, we have to refrain from TBB's and Eff-Tee-Peeing - as long as we do, we are untouchable and they know it.
