No Rangers deal for Sol Campbell, adios to Aaron

Recommended Posts

I don't think he did too well against Hamilton at Ibrox in the cup but his style certainly wasn't part of our tactics so it's no surprise he didn't feature more often.

One must remember though that Valencia recalled him so while we may not have put up too much of a fight to keep him, we probably didn't have a great deal of choice in the matter.

I did hear a rumour mid way through last season that Valencia were a bit cheesed off at the lack of football we were giving him.

Wouldn't surprise me mate. The loan deal didn't work out which is a pity as it would have probably been this coming season that would have really enabled both teams to judge the player's contribution.

The Aaron one was a strange deal, much like the various "hot teenage talent" (that sounds like the title of a porno) we've signed over the years who end up being released a few years later having never played for the first team. If we weren't going to give him a chance in the first team, why sign him? Even McCoist admitted during the season that he was the most natural player we had to try and fill the problematic left midfield position.

I think to be fair it was the wrong season for him. It was just too important to do much experimenting with a yet unproven 18 year old.

We already had a team full of youngsters in their early 20's.
