Next Rangers manager is not Ally McCoist?

to be honest I hope we are all arguing a moot point

It is a moot point, as Ian Ferguson has no chance at the moment.

 

as I would prefer neither as it stands. A seasoned, experienced manager is who I would prefer to take the reigns from Wattie.

When the PLG episode went pear shaped & Burley was doing well with Hertz after a short spell in charge, plenty Bears would have taken Burley as our manager. How many would say the same now? A fair number of our support think Craig Levien would be a good choice, but not me. He doesn't have the right temperament. I don't see a seasoned, experienced manager in the whole SPL (including someone like the mopes new manager) that I'd rather see taking Walter Smith's place (when the time comes) before Ally McCoist.

 

I'm interested in who you think would be a better choice for Walter Smith's replacement Craig, realistically.

Dick Advocaat would be fairly high on my 'realistic' wishlist, but his past career points to him following the cash, which we don't have these days.

Dick is already signed up to take over the Belgian national squad. He wouldn't come anyway he is a money mercenary.

Ferguson did all right at Aberdeen without decades of experience, Coyle looks impressive at Burnley, Mowbray did well at Hibs although he's stepped down a level recently, and Gannon at Motherwell - despite European defeat - looks to me to have MFC playing a better style of football than I've seen since Willie Pettigrew was doing his moustachioed thing in the 70s.

 

It would be a gamble but I'd like to see a young, hungry, radical manager in next. Maybe keep an eye on how Derek McInnes does, uh, Paul Ince...errr...Dick Campbell...can't actually think of anyone, but the point remains.

Derek McInnes is certainly one to keep an eye on.

RANGERS manager Walter Smith will work for half this season WITHOUT a contract.

 

The Ibrox manager's current deal expires in January and he's reached agreement with chairman Sir David Murray, he'll work after that until the end of the term without a new contract.

 

Murray and Smith made the arrangement during the summer and Sport of the World understands it moves Rangers closer to a new management structure of Ally McCoist and Kenny McDowall being in charge at the club.

 

Both Smith and Murray are comfortable with the gentleman's agreement and have agreed to review the managerial position next summer. If Rangers win their second straight title it's likely Smith will bow out on a high, moving to a role as Director of Football and leaving McCoist, McDowall and Ian Durrant in charge of first-team selection and tactics.

 

If Celtic win the flag, Smith could be asked to stay on as boss to groom his assistants to take over the reins.

 

Rangers have been given a bonus with the news that Cup Final hero Nacho Novo could be back in action next week.

 

It was feared Novo would be out till November after a recurrence of his shoulder injury but Smith said: "He went to a specialist in England and he managed to get his shoulder back in again.

 

"It's not quite as bad as we thought and there's a possibility he will be available for next week. It's a bonus for us."
