Daily Mail suggesting Boyd is undergoing hernia operation in England today...

That would suggest a fairly lengthy spell out.

According to Radio Clyde Boyd;s out for 5-6 games.

Hamilton (away)

Hamilton (home)

Hearts (home)

St Mirren (away)

Falkirk (home)

St Mirren (cup (possibly)) (home)

Motherwell (away)

Hibernian (home)

That's our next 8 games. Could be a lot worse!

If Boyd really has had to have an operation the recovery period will depend on his own motivation. Hernia ops can take 8-10 weeks to recover from, but athletes often recover in about 4-6 weeks to a point where they can resume their normal training activities. So depending on Boyd himself, he could be out for anywhere between 6 & 8 weeks minimum.

Someone had a groin injury not so long ago and they were out for about 9 months. It all depends on the injury. Lets hope it is just an irritation to the groin and be better in a few days. I would think he is very doubtful for the next game though no matter what he has got.

.

Sure, it depends on the groin injury, but I was talking specifically about rehab after a hernia op. That's what bugs me about this situation - it's not a new injury because McCoist let it slip in his BBC post match interview after the Hamilton game that it's something that's been bothering Boyd. Now when Hernia specialists would rather treat & rehabilitate a patient without surgery if possible, which involves rest & specific accumulating exercise over a period of several weeks, you would have to ask the question as to why on earth Boyd hasn't been rested more instead of continuing to play till the stage where he needs an operation.

If we get past Hamilton Gav we play St Mirren away in the cup !!

Obviously it's a massive loss, he is our top goalscorer ! Celtic have lost McDonald for a while as well.

This is Lafferty's chance now, at times last season he looked good. Just go out there big man and prove to us all why you love pulling on that jersey !!

Btw tin hat on, Lee for up front ??

Yep, Boyd will be out for around a month (possibly longer) and while that is a huge blow obviously our next 8 games are matches that we should be winning with or without Scotland's best goalscorer. As is the case with most of these hernia ops, I'd imagine it has been timed as such.

Silver lining is that it will allow the likes of Lafferty and Naismith to play up front in their preferred roles while we may even see the lively Loy or Little more often as well. We'll certainly need Miller to continue his good form (goalscoring wise especially) and it may not be beyond the realms of possibility that we bring in a loan player (if we can move on Rothen).
