Mendes - UPDATE: Will join Sporting over next 48 hours

From the Mendes point of view the move makes sense. He will get the chance to be immediately in the Portugal manager's thoughts on a week to week basis with the World Cup coming up as he has an outside chance of making the squad.

It certainly does absolutely nothing to benefit our title bid as our remaining midfielders who play in the sitting roles do not have the same creativity and are more 'industrial' defensive types.

Shame.

As soon as that offer came in a few weeks back, Mendes warmed to the idea.

He'll go with my best wishes.

Surprised when we signed a player of his calibre and enjoyed his input last year.

Walter just stated during the Press Conference that he went because he wants to push for the World Cup squad. He said we had cover in that area. A correct as that is we do lack a creative player in there now.

Mendes was always going to chase his WC dream by going back to Portugal.

additionally - did people not see him the Sky Sports studio thing at the hamilton game. He kept referring to us as 'Rangers' as opposed to 'we'.

Not surprised he's gone.

shame to lose a creative player though. Don't know if I can stomach Thomson/McCulloch for the rest of the season !!!

I am also heartened by the fact that Walter admitted at long last that Steve Davies was getting messed about out wide right , and that this was the area they were going to have a look at , about time too
