Sebo with another two goals

Recommended Posts

Would it kill people to put a thought or two into a topic? You could of at least posted wheere/when he scored.

You've had to make me think and come up with the fact that it was probably in a Euro qualifier.

Your job as a thread starter is to give me facts, not make me think.

Jesus.. ;)

THERE were defeats by the odd goal for both Ireland and Wales in their opening Euro 2008 Group D qualifiers last night, but it is Slovakia who lead the group after two goals from Rangers' Filip Sebo helped them to a 6-1 victory at home to Cyprus.

Marek Mintal also scored twice, with a goal apiece from Martin Skrtel and Miroslav Karhan before the visitors scored a last-minute consolation through Yiasemakis Yiasemi.

A deflected strike from Lukas Podolski earned Germany a 1-0 victory over Ireland in Stuttgart. Miroslav Klose won a free kick on the edge of the box in the 57th minute, Bernd Schneider teed the ball up and Podolski's low drive hit the unlucky Robbie Keane and sneaked inside Shay Given's post.

Substitute David Lafata scored twice on his international debut to give the Czech Republic a 2-1 win over Wales in their Euro 2008 Group D qualifier.

Craig Bellamy had a couple of gilt-edged chances for the visitors, and it was shortly after he volleyed an effort just wide that the Czechs went 1-0 up when the 24-year-old Lafata, who was fortunate not to be flagged offside, headed in Libor Sionko's pass from close range in the 76th minute.

In the 85th, Czech defender Martin Jiranek knocked a cross into his own net from close range for the Welsh equaliser but Lafata scored his second four minutes later, also from close range, after a pass from Sionko.

Barcelona's Eidur Gudjohnsen became Iceland's joint top-scorer in a 3-0 demolition of Northern Ireland in their Group F qualifier in Belfast.

Gunnar Heidar Thorvaldsson netted the opener on 13 minutes and Hermann Hreidarsson made it 2-0 from a corner seven minutes later.

Gudjohnsen then added a third, his 17th international goal, equalling the tally of Rikhardur Jonsson, who scored 17 times between 1947 and 1965.

Also in Group F, Sweden won 1-0 in Latvia thanks to a 38th-minute strike from Kim Kaellstroem (39).

England top Group E after their 5-0 win over Andorra, but Israel also have maximum points after winning their opening game in Estonia, Roberto Colautti scoring the only goal of the game in the ninth minute.

In Group A, Poland lost 3-1 at home to Finland. Lukasz Gargula scored a late equaliser for the hosts, shortly after Mika Vaeyrynen had added to a Jari Litmanen brace.

Nikola Zigic's 71st minute header gave Serbia a laboured 1-0 win against Azerbaijan in their opening Group A qualifier played behind closed doors.

Zigic powered his downward header past a defender on the line to give the Serbs a hardly deserved victory in their competitive debut as an independent nation after the split with Montenegro in July. The Serbians were ordered to play a match behind closed doors for crowd trouble in their final World Cup qualifier against Bosnia last October.

Manchester United's Ole Gunnar Solskjaer scored twice as Norway overcame their hosts Hungary 4-1 in Group C. Fredrik Stromstad and Blackburn's Morten Gamst Pedersen were also on target, while West Brom's Zoltan Gera scored a penalty for Hungary with the game deep into injury time.

Bosnia won 5-2 in Malta, while a late goal from Nikos Liberopoulos gave Greece a 1-0 victory in Moldova.
