McGeady primed for Moscow move

Recommended Posts

Didn't they pay £2m for du Ri and 900k for Hooper?

Not too sure on prices Gav but Hooper was definiteky being touted as a 2 mill signing.

Either way it is easy to get to 5.5 mill net spending - and that doesnt even take into account how much they need to give Mowbray for his pay-off !!

thanks for info guys.

So it looks like they have only got big money in for 2 players, boruc and mcmanus, while getting another 6 off the payroll (including a fee of around £650K for 2 kids to swindon) and bringing in murphy, juarez, ledley, mulgrew, du-ri, hooper, kayal.

So 8 out bringa in around £4M, and 7 in for around £8-9M, or as much as £12M if you believe some of the price tags.

Given that Timmy made a huge loss last season (no CL, regular half-empty stadiums, mowbrays signings and fees, Keano's loan fee and wages etc) there is no doubt they are well into the red by the end of the season, possibly by up to £8-10m.

Clearly they have no CL income again, no guarantee of CL in 11-12 even if they win the title, pay-offs for Mowbray and staff, re-building again, still not sold enough ST's, and a much larger wage bill again, if they fail to get the Glaswegian irishman off to Moscow they are in deep deep doodoo, and it will almost certainly be the end of the buying for this season, and they dont still have a decent defence or keeper.

Oh happy days!!

AIDEN McGeady was yesterday shown around Spartak Moscow with its Soviet-era training base as the Russian club defied its own fans to woo a player now expected to sign a contract in a near-£10 million deal tomorrow.

But the Celtic winger is facing a backlash with Moscow fans already dubbing him 'McGreedski' for his £40,000 a week pay demand, far in excess of the clubs established stars.

"McGeady is in Moscow; we are showing him everything," said a source. "Contract negotiations are still in a process, but we are very close to getting his signature."

The club imposed a media blackout as the 24-year-old was believed to have seen the spartan training camp with three pitches an hour and a half outside Moscow. He was told he will have the constant attention of an interpreter and driver to ensure he can cope with language problems and find his way around a city that yesterday remained shrouded in smog caused by forest fires. If he comes to Moscow he will have to get used to the cold ââ?¬â?? but yesterday he had a baptism of heat with temperatures of 39C.

If he signs in Moscow it will be to a club languishing eighth in the table at the halfway point of the season and 19 points behind leaders Zenit St Petersburg. With limits on foreign players in the Russian league, Spartak fans are askance at the club's obsession with McGeady and manager Valery Karpin is facing a backlash over the move.

Supporters leader Ivan Katanaev said: "Who the hell is McGeady? He didn't play anywhere, except for Celtic, so why we are praying he joins our Spartak? He doesn't deserve this honour."

Fellow Spartak fan Kostya Hlebnikov, 24, said: "He should be called 'McGreedski' not McGeady for permanently asking more money from the club. He is interested only in money."

As soon as Russian clubs come in for players its usually for the money. Bruno Alves of Porto moved to Zenit this window, wouldn't say its a step up and Chelsea were linked with him.

Aidsrideen is obviously greedy, I wouldn't be surprised if he lasted a game as Spartak have so much better attack minded players.

Good to see the Ruski's on his back already

From a Rangers POV, this move must not go through, as nobody else will pay anything like that for a talentless twat with no final ball or shooting accuracy. It must have been some DVD they sent the Russians to have him rated at that price, or anywhere near it.

Without the income from this move, Timmy cannot buy any more players, and clearly the team they have at the moment is not one to have us too worried.

Aiden McGeady’s hopes of moving to the Barclays Premier League with Aston Villa appear to be over.

It is understood that Martin O’Neill, who gave the player his Celtic debut in 2004, will not be pursuing his long-standing interest in him.

Villa are on the verge of completing the sale of James Milner to Manchester City, with the deal thought to be worth £27.5 million. Around £15m will be paid up front, another £5m in add-ons, and Stephen Ireland will move to Villa Park in exchange.

Although it was expected that as soon as Milner was sold, McGeady would move to Villa, it now seems that the deal will not happen. This leaves Spartak Moscow as the only club to make a bid, of £9m, for the Republic of Ireland international.

McGeady spent several days in Moscow last week with his girlfriend and the 24-year-old is thought to regard the potential move to a new country as exciting, where once his only interest was in joining an English Premier League side.

Spartak have reportedly offered the winger a four-year contract worth £60,000 a week.

Neil Lennon, the Celtic manager, and the club, are known to be keen to sell McGeady in order to recoup transfer funds, while the player is looking for a new challenge. The collapse of his potential move to Villa is a setback, though.

The capture of Ireland will provide O’Neill’s team with the additional creativity he is seeking and although other transfer moves might be possible once the wage bill is reduced, with Luke Young and Steve Sidwell both available, it seems that McGeady’s hopes of moving to the Midlands have been ended.
